Chungbuk Office of Education, transfers customized science class know-how to 53 Mongolian science teachers

The Mongolian Overseas Science Teacher Exchange Program hosted by the Jikji Science Love Education Research Group under the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education was successfully completed at the 4th School in Zuongkaraa, Seleng Province, Mongolia, with 53 local Mongolian teachers in attendance.

This training, now in its 6th year, is a representative overseas exchange project that has been continued between Korean and Mongolian teachers to share science teaching know-how and strengthen international bonds. Due to delays in local delivery of the experimental materials prepared prior to the training, an unexpected situation occurred where the schedule was postponed by a week from the original plan. However, all of the Mongolian teachers who applied participated without leaving, showing great interest and enthusiasm for Korean science education.

In this training, which lasted for three days, a total of seven student-participatory exploration programs were conducted, including understanding system thinking using games, fun science classes, stories about chemical elements, learning about the nature of science through tangrams, observing owl pellets, and exploring principles using light and lenses. It was organized in a way that went beyond simply conveying theory and involved hands-on experimentation and experience, and received an enthusiastic response from local attendees. For this event, 19 teachers from the Jikji Science Love Education Research Association worked together to prepare textbooks and experiment kits several months ago to improve their quality.

An official from the local chemistry teachers' group in Mongolia who participated in the training said that they are actively using the student-participatory teaching methods and inquiry-oriented classes learned through the training in actual classroom settings by sharing them with members of the research group, and expressed their impression that the advanced teaching methods of Korean teachers are a great help in improving local education.

Next, the teacher who led this training group emphasized that science is a process of exploring reasons beyond simple facts and that education has the value of growing together, and expressed that even under difficult conditions, as a teacher, he continues exchange activities every year for the present and future of students.

The Chungbuk Office of Education plans to continue to expand cooperation with Mongolian schools along with the Jikji Science Love Education Research Association and develop a science education cooperation model that allows teachers from both countries to strengthen their capabilities together.
