Cheongju University announced that it held the opening ceremony for the second semester of the ‘2026 Ready Go Cheongju Actors Human Resource Development Project’ at the Cheongju Kim Soo-hyun Drama Art Hall. This project is a citizen-participatory acting education program operated by the Cheongju University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation in collaboration with Cheongju City; it is a representative community-linked project designed to help citizens grow as active participants in culture and the arts.
A total of 118 Cheongju citizens are participating in this year's second semester curriculum, including 58 in the basic class, 32 in the intermediate class, 14 in the advanced class, and 14 in the theater workshop. The basic and intermediate classes will focus on acting theory and basic practice, while the advanced class will film rehearsal videos and the theater workshop will feature a live theatrical performance presentation, with the goal of strengthening practical skills to enable immediate deployment to the real world.
At the opening ceremony, actor Choi Joo-bong, who is active in various fields including theater and broadcasting, drew attention as a special lecturer. Actor Choi received a great response from the students by sincerely sharing his acting philosophy, born from his extensive field experience, and the fundamental attitude required of an actor. At the event, the project's principal researcher, a professor in the Department of Film and Video at Cheongju University, stated that Cheongju Actors is an open educational platform for not only citizens dreaming of becoming actors but also for everyone who wishes to deeply communicate with the local community through culture and the arts. He expressed his hope that the participants would grow into active agents of culture and the arts and contribute significantly to the development of local visual arts. "Ready Go Cheongju Actors," which took its first steps in 2017, has achieved the feat of producing over 600 citizen actors by the first half of this year. Graduates are actively continuing their careers in the field, appearing in large numbers in films and various terrestrial and OTT drama series.
Meanwhile, Cheongju University and Cheongju City plan to continue expanding education and opportunities for field participation linked to the local video industry, taking the lead in creating a citizen-centered local video culture ecosystem and generating related jobs.
