The Jeju Creative Economy Innovation Center and Qnesty have set out to expand the local investment ecosystem by forming an open innovation fund to invest in AI and AX-based startups.
On the 30th, the two organizations held a general meeting to establish the "AX Startup Hub Open Innovation Fund" at the Jeju Center, officially launching the strategic fund. The fund was established as a public-private partnership structure, with the Jeju Center and Qnesty participating as Co-GPs and Hana Securities as a Limited Partner (LP). The initial fund size is approximately 1.02 billion KRW, with plans to expand it to over 2 billion KRW in the future.
PoC-based investment… Establishing a virtuous cycle of “Discovery → Verification → Commercialization”
This fund goes beyond simple investment, centering on a structure that combines open innovation and proof-of-concept (PoC). The goal is to establish a virtuous cycle model that identifies promising startups, verifies their technology in real-world industrial environments, and leads to commercialization and follow-up investment.
The investment strategy is also clear. The plan is to invest more than half of the total committed capital in AI-based innovative companies and to concentrate over 60% on Jeju's strategic industries and sectors with significant competitive advantages, such as eco-friendly energy, future mobility, and biotechnology. Through this, the vision is to foster Jeju as a testbed for the demonstration and collaboration of innovative companies.
The Jeju Center and Qnesty plan to support the technological advancement and growth of startups by linking with private-sector-led R&D and financial support programs such as TIPS and LIPS. In particular, the focus is on reducing the gaps in the validation and commercialization stages experienced by early-stage companies.
The Jeju Center has been expanding its regional investment base through the formation of various funds, and with the inclusion of this fund, the size of its managed funds will increase to over 19.6 billion won. Moving forward, the center plans to strengthen the startup growth ecosystem by providing follow-up investment support linked to regional innovation venture funds.
