Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment Launches Customized Technical Support for 28 Public Wastewater Treatment Facilities in Western Region

Targeting 8 Cities and Counties Including Mokpo… All-out Effort for Aquatic Ecosystem Preservation and Prevention of Effluent Pollution Significantly Enhancing Water Quality Management Expertise Through On-Site Consulting and Laboratory Capacity Strengthening

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeollanam-do Institute of Health and Environment is launching full-scale "Technical Support for Environmental Infrastructure Facilities" targeting public wastewater treatment facilities in the western region of the province to create clean aquatic ecosystems and ensure thorough management of effluent quality.

The targets of this technical support are a total of 28 public wastewater treatment facilities with a daily treatment capacity of 500㎥ or more, located in eight cities and counties in the western region of Jeonnam, including Mokpo. The Institute plans to proactively prevent water pollution in public waters by significantly enhancing the laboratory operational capabilities of each facility's management entity and fundamentally resolving complex technical difficulties encountered on-site.

The core focus of the technical support initiative is on practical, field-oriented assistance. The Institute dispatches specialized personnel directly to the site to comprehensively implement measures such as inspecting laboratory operational status and measurement/analysis accuracy, providing customized on-site technical consulting tailored to facility characteristics, and offering professional development training for operational staff.

In particular, the Institute plans to precisely verify the purification efficiency of wastewater treatment facilities from various angles by directly collecting and analyzing discharged water during site visits. Through this, the Institute provides close support to ensure data reliability and minimize the margin of error that may occur during the measurement and analysis processes.

The Institute's technical support initiatives have already proven to be outstanding. Last year, the Institute provided customized solutions—ranging from cause analysis to process improvements—to a public wastewater treatment facility in the western region that was struggling due to exceeding discharge quality standards. As a result, the Institute successfully stabilized the discharge quality to within the established limits. Bae Ju-sun, Head of the Soil and Waste Division at the Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment, stated, “Strict management of effluent quality from public sewage treatment facilities is a key factor directly linked to the health of provincial residents and the improvement of their quality of life,” adding, “We will continue to provide customized technical support that offers practical assistance on-site, based on a close cooperative system with each city and county.”
