South Jeolla Province to Host Policy Gathering 'Baran' on the 20th... Formulating Future Strategies for the 'Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City'

Listening to Proposals for Utilizing 20 Trillion Won in Government Subsidies and Policy Proposals Centered on City and Provincial Residents - Creating a 'Citizen-Participatory' Forum for Communication Without Exclusive Use of Speakers, Congratulatory Remarks, or Microphones

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province announced that it will hold the 5th event of the Jeonnam Policy Gathering 'Baran' at 3 p.m. on the 20th at the small performance hall on the first floor of the Provincial Office.

This event was organized to allow city and provincial residents to directly participate in proposing policies that will change the region's future and to engage in discussions ahead of the launch of the 'Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.' Approximately 200 people are expected to attend the event, which will be presided over by South Jeolla Province Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Kang Wi-won, including members of the '20 Trillion Won Citizen Community Forum' and city and provincial residents.

In particular, the ‘20 Trillion Won Citizen Community Forum,’ which presents the vision for the Integrated Special City led by the private sector, has recently surpassed 10,000 participating members, demonstrating the enthusiastic interest of local residents.

At the event, the progress of the 20 Trillion Won Citizen Community Forum, key proposals for utilizing the 20 trillion won in government subsidies, and digital promotional materials for attracting businesses will be shared. Based on this, attendees plan to engage in in-depth discussions on directions for efficient financial utilization and the future strategies of the Integrated Special City.

The subsequent open discussion will focus on key tasks proposed through the forum. Residents of the city and province are expected to freely share their opinions on various topics closely related to their lives, including regional development strategies, fostering future industries, youth policies, expansion of Living SOC (Social Infrastructure), balanced development, and citizen-participatory financial management.

Jeonnam Province plans to actively review and incorporate the opinions presented at this policy gathering into the Integrated Special City’s policies and financial management directions, aiming to concretize them into policies that residents can experience in their daily lives. Kang Wi-won, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of South Jeolla Province, stated, “The integrated special city of Jeonnam and Gwangju goes beyond the mere integration of administrative districts; it is a bold challenge to create a new successful model for the era of local regions in Korea.” He urged, “Please gather your valuable wisdom so that the 20 trillion won in government subsidies can be used to secure the region’s future competitiveness and substantially improve the quality of life for the residents of both cities and provinces.”

Meanwhile, ‘Cheongchaek Daedonghoe Baran,’ a representative participatory policy communication program of South Jeolla Province, is an open platform where any resident can freely participate. In particular, it is highly regarded for its horizontal discussion culture that focuses solely on the voices of the residents by excluding formal procedures, adopting three main principles: “an event without distinguished guests, congratulatory speeches, or microphone monopoly.”
