South Jeolla Province Selects 3 ‘2026 Jeonnam-style Youth Villages’… 300 Million Won in Support Over 3 Years

Yeosu Dolsan-eup, Goheung Donggang-myeon, and Boseong Beolgyo-eup Final Selections - Launching Region-Specific Programs Including Local Food, Smart Orchards, and Workcations - 17 Villages Established Since 2022… Continuing Achievements in Youth Influx and Settlement

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province has finally selected three locations—Dolsan-eup in Yeosu, Donggang-myeon in Goheung, and Beolgyo-eup in Boseong—as the sites for the ‘2026 Jeonnam-style Youth Village Creation Project,’ which is being promoted to help young people settle stably and become self-reliant in the region.

Thirteen youth organizations from eight cities and counties within the province participated in this open call, demonstrating keen interest. South Jeolla Province carefully selected three organizations with high potential for regional development and feasibility of project implementation through document review, on-site inspection, and final presentation evaluation. The selected Youth Villages will receive a total of 300 million won in project funding per village over the next three years, along with expert consulting to ensure successful settlement.

The selected Youth Villages will showcase differentiated programs that highlight the unique characteristics of their respective regions.

"Dolsan THE Gat" in Dolsan-eup, Yeosu, plans to create jobs through local kitchens and cafes directly operated by young people. It operates "Gatseom Picnic," utilizing local foods such as the regional specialty Dolsan Gat, and the "Gat-Saeng Project," a program for exploring the region and experiencing rural life.

"Goheung Citrus" in Donggang-myeon, Goheung, leverages Goheung's abundant fruit resources. While assisting with farm labor by operating a Youth Smart Pruning Team, it also develops customized programs for young people hoping to return to farming or rural life, such as citrus-themed experiences and living in an orchard garden.

"First Penguin Village" in Beolgyo-eup, Boseong, focuses on local business models. The plan involves operating a ‘workcation’ (a portmanteau of work and vacation) program for designers and developing Boseong’s local resources into trendy products through a merchandise design contest. Through this, the goal is to establish a new youth village model that connects the region with skilled professionals from outside.

Moving forward, these Jeonnam-style youth villages will create dedicated spaces for youth networking and build an ecosystem where residents and youth coexist through employment and startup support programs linked to regionally specialized industries.

The ‘Jeonnam-style Youth Village Creation Project,’ launched by Jeonnam Province in 2022, has achieved the success of establishing 17 villages across 13 cities and counties to date. A total of 4,191 young people have participated in the related programs so far, and with 68 of them newly moving to or fully settling in Jeonnam, the initiative is being recognized as an exemplary case of responding to the crisis of regional decline.
