400 Youths Begin Second-Half Work Experience at 233 "Dream Sites"... On-Site Adaptation for Up to 5 Months. Incentives of Up to 2.4 Million Won Per Youth Provided to Businesses Hiring for Regular Positions

(Break News Jeonnam-Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = 400 youths from the 20th cohort of the "Gwangju Youth Work Experience Dream Project," the flagship youth employment policy of Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, have officially begun their work experience for the second half of the year at 233 "Dream Sites" (participating workplaces).

The final selection for this 20th cohort of Dream Youths took place through the "Dream Meeting Day," held at the Gwangju City Hall from July 13 to 15. A total of 1,486 youths visited the three-day event to undergo workplace consultations and on-site interviews, and 400 individuals were finally confirmed after overcoming fierce competition. The selected youths will receive a salary while gaining practical work experience at their respective matched workplaces for up to five months, until this coming December.

To facilitate the smooth on-site adaptation of the youths from the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, a three-day preliminary common training program will be held from the 3rd to the 5th at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center and the Gwangju Government Complex.

On the 3rd, the first day of training, programs essential for organizational life were provided, starting with a project introduction and orientation, followed by activities such as identifying personal strengths, new employee adaptation, and team building. On the second and final days, lectures aimed at strengthening the practical capabilities of the youths will continue, covering labor relations basics and on-site response methods, as well as communication, financial management, and mindset training.

Follow-up support measures have also been prepared to create sustainable jobs. The Integrated Special City plans to actively assist the youths in settling in the region by providing a linked employment incentive of up to 2.4 million won per youth to workplaces that hire participating youths as regular employees for at least one year after the work experience program ends. Kim Ki-sook, Director of the Youth Bureau of Education at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "The Youth Work Experience Dream Project goes beyond simply providing short-term jobs; it serves as a bridge to help young people explore career paths, develop their capabilities, and stably settle into the local community." She added, "We will continue to do our utmost to create a practical employment ecosystem where youth and local businesses can grow together."
