Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Supports ‘Industrial Safety Education Interpretation’ for Foreign Workers… All-out Effort to Prevent Industrial Accidents
**Provided Interpretation Support a Total of 10 Times for Approximately 150 Foreign Workers in Daebul Industrial Complex and Other Sites in the First Half of This Year**
- Preventing Safety Accidents by Resolving Language Barriers… Enhancing Understanding Through Training Focused on On-Site Equipment Cases
(Break News Jeonnam-Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City has stepped forward to provide active interpretation support to resolve language barriers for foreign workers and prevent safety accidents at industrial sites.
Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City announced that, in collaboration with the Comprehensive Support Center for Foreign Immigrants, it provided ‘Industrial Safety Education Interpretation’ a total of 10 times during the first half of this year (January to June) for approximately 150 foreign workers employed at workplaces including the Yeongam Daebul National Industrial Complex.
This support was established to reflect voices from the field stating that, amidst a recent surge in demand for safety education targeting foreign workers in industrial sites, it is difficult for them to properly understand the training content due to language communication limitations. The city focused on providing safety guidelines to help foreign workers accurately identify workplace hazards and respond quickly and safely in emergencies.
The main training content included the three major safety rules for industrial sites, as well as methods to prevent falls and entrapment accidents. In particular, the training explained equipment and facilities frequently used in the field—such as grinders, gas hose nipples, hose bundling, and vertical clamps—using case studies. It also maximized workers' understanding by intuitively comparing cases of inadequate safety management with excellent practices.
An official from a participating workplace stated, "Communication has always been the biggest obstacle whenever we conducted safety training for foreign workers, but thanks to professional interpretation support, we were able to accurately convey the key points." He added, "Being able to immediately hear and communicate about the difficulties foreign workers face on-site was a significant help in preventing actual accidents." Jin Mi-seon, Director of the Immigration Policy Division of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, stated, “Accurately conveying safety education content to foreign workers without language barriers is the first step in preventing industrial accidents.” She added, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that foreign workers can work in a safer environment through comprehensive interpretation support tailored to on-site needs.”
Meanwhile, workplaces wishing to receive interpretation support for industrial safety education can apply through the website of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Immigration Foreigner Support Center or the Integrated Support Call Center.
