This event marks the first national commemorative ceremony since the launch of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City. It is being organized as an occasion to reflect on the spirit of freedom and independence of liberation and to honor the sacrifices of patriotic martyrs, while simultaneously sharing the significance of the official launch of the Integrated Special City and reaffirming the resolve to move forward toward a new future together with the citizens. Approximately 600 people are expected to attend the celebratory ceremony on this day, including Mayor Min Hyung-bae, City Council Chairman Song Hyung-gon, Superintendent of Education Kim Dae-jung, Ko Wook, Head of the Gwangju Branch of the Korean Liberation Association, Song In-jeong, Head of the Jeonnam Branch, as well as National Assembly members, heads of local governments, members of the Korean Liberation Association, bereaved families of independence activists, representatives of veterans' organizations, and citizens.

The program of the event will proceed in the following order: screening of an opening video, national ceremony, welcoming remarks, commemorative address, awards for independence activists, congratulatory address, commemorative performance, singing of the Liberation Day song, and a triple cheer of "Hurray!"

The opening video, themed "The History of Liberation, the Future of Jeonnam Gwangju," consists of four chapters: Liberation, Democracy, a United Jeonnam Gwangju, and the Future of Jeonnam Gwangju. The video depicts the process by which the dedication of our ancestors led to today's Republic of Korea and the integrated Jeonnam Gwangju.

The Suncheon City Children's Choir will participate in the subsequent commemorative performance, presenting a stage performance under the theme "The Light of Liberation, Connecting the Future." Through a narrative that follows the progression of ‘Flame of Resistance → Aspiration → Liberation → Future,’ the event conveys the nobility of the independence movement and a message of hope for the unified Jeonnam-Gwangju.

In addition, awards will be presented to 11 individuals (5 Presidential Commendations and 6 Mayoral Commendations) who contributed to the Republic of Korea’s independence and the promotion of national spirit, honoring their dedication to the development of the nation and local community.

Prior to the main ceremony, a memorial service will be held at 9:00 AM at the Gwangju Independence Movement Memorial Tower within Sangmu Citizens Park, attended by key officials and members of veterans' organizations. Meanwhile, the entire schedule of the 81st Anniversary Liberation Day Celebration will be broadcast live on ‘Jeonnam Gwangju TV,’ the official YouTube channel of the Unified Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan City. Kang Jong-cheol, Head of the Autonomous Administration Headquarters of Gwangju Metropolitan City, stated, “Liberation is a precious history achieved through the sacrifice and dedication of our ancestors,” adding, “We will inherit that noble spirit and create a new beginning for Gwangju, Jeonnam, through solidarity and mutual prosperity with a unified heart.” He further conveyed, “I hope many citizens will join the celebratory ceremony to share the meaning of liberation and celebrate the new beginning of Gwangju, Jeonnam.”
