Jeonnam Police Mobilize All Undercover Patrol Cars for 8 Weeks… Intensive Crackdown on ‘Failure to Wear Seatbelts and Helmets’
From June 22 to August 7… Focusing on Rural Outskirts and Areas with High Traffic Fatalities – Strict Response to High-Risk Violations Including Traffic Signal Violations, Drunk Driving, and Driving Without a License
(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency and the Jeonnam Autonomous Police Commission are launching a large-scale special crackdown to prevent traffic fatalities, which have recently been on the rise, particularly in rural outskirts.
The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced that it will deploy undercover patrol teams for eight weeks, from the upcoming 22nd to August 7, to conduct an intensive crackdown on major traffic law violations, such as failing to wear seatbelts and helmets.
This crackdown is a measure taken in response to a recent series of fatal traffic accidents caused by the failure to wear seatbelts or helmets. The police planned this intensive crackdown period to raise residents' awareness of traffic law compliance and to proactively prevent accidents.
The police plan to significantly intensify on-site enforcement by mobilizing all available personnel, including undercover patrol teams, traffic police, and officers from local police substations and patrol posts, focusing on major intersections near sites of fatal traffic accidents and large-scale regional festivals.
The primary targets of the crackdown are offenses with a high risk of causing traffic accidents, including failure to wear seatbelts on cargo trucks, failure to wear helmets on motorcycles, traffic signal violations, crossing the center line, and drunk driving or driving without a license.
In addition, the Jeonnam Police will not stop at enforcement alone; they intend to foster an atmosphere of voluntary traffic accident prevention by actively promoting the intensive crackdown plan through measures such as posting banners around high-traffic accident zones and sites of fatal accidents.
An official from the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency emphasized, "Fatal traffic accidents can be sufficiently reduced or prevented simply by adhering to basic traffic laws and wearing seatbelts and helmets." He added, "We will do our utmost to ensure that a culture of traffic law compliance is firmly established to protect the lives and safety of the residents."
