AI-based rare disease diagnosis company Three Billion is accelerating its global market expansion through attracting large-scale investment.

Three Billion announced that it has attracted an investment worth 30 billion won to expand its global business and secure future growth engines. The investment consists of 17.5 billion won in convertible preferred shares (CPS) and 12.5 billion won in convertible bonds (CB), with participation from major institutional investors including Kiwoom PE, GVA Asset Management, and IBK Industrial Bank of Korea.

Notably, both the coupon rate and the yield to maturity of the convertible bonds are set at 0%. The success in raising funds under 'zero interest rate' conditions, even in a high-interest rate environment, is seen as a reflection of market confidence in AI-based genetic diagnostic technology and growth potential.

Expanding from 'Patients to Prevention'… Evolving into a Lifelong Genetic Diagnostic Platform

Three Billion plans to focus the secured funds on building infrastructure in the U.S. market, expanding genetic diagnostics for non-patients, and accelerating the validation of its AI-based new drug pipeline.

In particular, it will fully enter the insurance-based high-value-added market by targeting the U.S. rare disease market, which has a population of approximately 30 million. To this end, it will also simultaneously secure key personnel in local clinical genetics, sales, and other fields.

At the same time, the business expands from its existing focus on patient diagnosis into the realm of prevention and management. The strategy is to transition to a structure that manages genetic risks at a pre-disease stage through whole-genome sequencing (WGS)-based newborn screening (gNBS) and 'Family Insight' tests.

At the same time, it is accelerating preclinical validation of 15 pipelines secured through the AI drug development platform. This is a strategic move with future licensing out (L/O) and joint development possibilities with pharmaceutical companies in mind.

CEO Geum Chang-won stated, “This investment will serve as an opportunity to demonstrate our technological lead in the global genetic diagnostics market and accelerate our growth,” adding, “We aim to leap forward as a global leader by generating revenue in the U.S. market and expanding into the field of preventive diagnostics.”
