Gyeongsan Culture & Tourism Foundation Selected for Two Cultural Arts Education Projects by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism… Secures 450 Million Won in State Funding
The Gyeongsan Culture & Tourism Foundation has been consecutively selected for two projects in the 2026 Cultural Arts Education public contest, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Arts Education Foundation, thereby accelerating the revitalization of locally-based cultural arts education.
The projects selected this time are "Gagahoho," a community-based cultural arts education support project, and "Dream Studio," a visual arts-based creative education support project for children and adolescents. Through these selections, the Foundation has secured a total of 450 million won in state funding.
First, the "Gagahoho" project, selected for the second consecutive year following last year, is a community-based cultural arts education initiative aimed at restoring family relationships and connecting local communities amidst changing family structures characterized by low birth rates, an aging population, and an increase in single-person households. The Foundation plans to operate customized programs that integrate music, art, dance, and theater for various family types, including young single-person households, middle-aged single-person households, single-parent and grandparent-headed households, and caregivers of infants and toddlers.
In particular, reflecting Gyeongsan City's characteristics as a mixed urban-rural city and its living environment, the program will be operated in conjunction with local hub spaces such as the Family Center, Shared Childcare Center, and Gyeongsan Youth Center, and will be implemented with 50 million won in state funding.
The "Dream Studio" project, also selected, is a project to establish a permanent visual arts education hub for children and adolescents. Participating students will engage in a long-term educational program where they can grow as active creators by directly experiencing various visual arts, such as painting, sculpture, and video, in artists' studios and professional studios.
With this selection, the Foundation will receive a total of 400 million won in state funding over five years, consisting of 100 million won annually for the first three years and 50 million won annually for the fourth and fifth years. Starting from the sixth year, the Foundation plans to continue the project with the goal of establishing a self-sustaining foundation capable of independent operation.
In addition, the Foundation plans to operate creative programs that integrate AI, robotics, and maker technologies into various visual arts fields, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and ceramics. Furthermore, it intends to foster a community-based arts education ecosystem by collaborating with the College of Arts at Yeungnam University, local artists, and cultural institutions.
CEO Choi Sang-ryong stated, "The selection for this public competition project is an achievement resulting from the potential of arts and culture education in Gyeongsan and the cooperation of various local institutions." He added, "We will continue to expand arts and culture education programs so that anyone can experience and grow in arts and culture close to the lives of citizens."
