Meeting with Vice Chairman Gao Shiming… Receives Donation of ‘Selected Works and Documentary on Chung Yul-sung,’ an Anti-Japanese Musician from Gwangju

(Gwangju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = A Gwangju delegation, led by Mayor Kang Ki-jung, has joined hands with the most authoritative institution in China’s cultural and artistic community to establish a network for solidarity and exchange between Korea and China.

Gwangju City announced that the delegation visited the Federation of Chinese Literary and Art Circles (hereinafter the Federation), a representative private organization in the cultural and artistic community located in Beijing, China, on the afternoon of the 9th (local time) and held a meeting with Vice Chairman Gao Shiming.

During the meeting, Mayor Kang Ki-jung and Vice Chairman Gao Shiming reviewed the historical ties between Korea and China and exchanged in-depth views on the current status of cultural and artistic exchanges between China and Gwangju City, as well as major cultural policies to be pursued in the future. In particular, Vice Chairman Gao Shiming added significance to the exchange by donating a USB containing a collection of works by Jeong Yul-seong—an anti-Japanese musician from Gwangju who is widely respected in China—and a documentary video about his life to Gwangju City.

The Federation of Chinese Artists and Literary Circles, which Mayor Kang and his delegation visited, is an organization established in 1949. It is the most prestigious governing body for culture and the arts in China, composed of 14 professional associations and 32 local cultural and artistic federations. Encompassing major art groups and leading international exchange activities in the field of culture and arts, it is expected to serve as a bridgehead for expanding Gwangju City's cultural exchange network with China in the future.
