Samsung Heavy Industries and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering each secured orders for two liquefied natural gas carriers from Oceania-based shipping companies, extending the strong global demand trend for LNG vessels.

Samsung Heavy Industries said Thursday that it won an order worth 750.5 billion won ($503 million) to build two LNG carriers for an Oceania shipping company.

The shipbuilder plans to deliver both vessels by June 2029.

“The momentum in LNG vessel orders is gaining strength,” a Samsung Heavy Industries official said. “We will continue to expand orders through selective, profitability-focused deals across the entire LNG value chain.”

With the latest deal, Samsung Heavy Industries’ cumulative orders for this year rose to $3.9 billion.

So far this year, the company has secured orders for a total of 19 vessels, including nine LNG carriers, two ethane carriers, two gas carriers, two container ships and four crude oil tankers.

Separately, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering said it recently signed a contract with an Oceania-based shipping company to build two LNG carriers worth 743.9 billion won.

The vessels will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and delivered in the first half of 2029.

Including the latest agreement, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has secured orders for 98 ships worth $11.82 billion, reaching 50.7 percent of its annual order target of $23.31 billion.

Its orders this year include 16 LNG carriers, 26 container ships, 20 LPG and ammonia carriers, seven crude oil tankers and 26 petrochemical product carriers.
