Korea National University of Transportation Successfully Hosts ‘Visiting AISW Future School’ for Special Education Students

Korea National University of Transportation has stepped forward to bridge the digital education gap for students with special needs and cultivate core competencies for the future society. On June 23, the university’s AI Edutech Convergence Education Center visited Cheongju Hyehwa School to operate the ‘Visiting AISW Future School’ program, utilizing cutting-edge AI Edutech infrastructure. This program was designed with customized, experience-based activities that precisely considered the students' specific disabilities and developmental levels.

Students participating in the experience began with drone taxi and drone simulator simulations, where they could witness real-time flight footage via VR devices. They then enjoyed an autonomous vehicle voice coding experience, where they controlled vehicles via voice commands and naturally learned coding principles. Following this, they participated in a robot soccer experience, cooperating with friends using AI robots. Through these diverse AI and software-based activities, students had a valuable opportunity to understand new future technologies—which might otherwise seem unfamiliar—in an easy and fun way, while further enhancing their interest and confidence in digital technology.

They also expressed gratitude for the meticulous operation of the program tailored to the specific characteristics of each individual student.

Furthermore, an official from the AI EdTech Convergence Education Center at Korea National University of Transportation shared their thoughts in an interview, noting that it was a highly meaningful time for students with special educational needs to naturally experience and learn about future technologies through various AI EdTech activities. They emphasized that they will continue to expand the AI digital inclusive education ecosystem by organically linking student experiences with teacher training through close cooperation with special schools.

In fact, the AI EdTech Convergence Education Center at Korea National University of Transportation plans to go beyond this student program and conduct specialized training for teachers at Cheongju Hyehwa School on July 3rd to enhance their capabilities in utilizing AI, software, and EdTech. The university plans to continuously expand mutual cooperation for the successful digital transformation of special education sites and the creation of future-oriented teaching and learning environments by firmly establishing a customized future education support system that links student experiential education with teacher training.
