(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Integrated Special City of Jeonnam-Gwangju held a joint decision ceremony, which also served as a send-off ceremony for the disabled athletes from Jeonnam and Gwangju participating in the 46th National Para Games, pledging to perform well and demonstrate harmony at the competition.

On the 28th, the Integrated Special City of Jeonnam-Gwangju held the ‘Joint Decision Ceremony for the Jeonnam-Gwangju Disabled Athletes of the 46th National Para Games’ at the Jeonnam-Gwangju National Sports Center for the Disabled. This pledge ceremony was organized as an occasion where disabled athletes from both regions gathered to reflect on the significance of integration and reaffirm their determination to fully demonstrate the skills they have honed over the years.

Approximately 400 people attended the event to encourage the delegation, including key regional figures such as Ko Gwang-wan, Vice Mayor for Safety and Public Welfare of the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan City; Song Hyeong-gon, Chairman of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan City Council; and Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Education for the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan City; as well as officials from the Jeonnam and Gwangju Paralympic Committees, participating athletes, coaches, and family members.

A large delegation of 1,093 athletes from the Integrated Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan City will participate in the 46th National Paralympic Games, which will be held in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province for six days until September 16. A delegation of 700 athletes from the Jeonnam region will compete in 30 sports, while a delegation of 393 athletes from the Gwangju region will compete in 22 sports to showcase their skills. Notably, although the Jeonnam and Gwangju delegations are registered separately to compete in this tournament in accordance with competition regulations, they are holding joint send-off and disbandment ceremonies to boost team morale and highlight the symbolic significance of the launch of the unified special city. They are also wearing unified joint uniforms. This holds great significance in that it strengthens genuine harmony and solidarity between the two regions through sports, transcending administrative divisions.

In his congratulatory remarks, Ko Gwang-wan, Vice Mayor for Safety and Public Welfare, stated, “This send-off ceremony is a very meaningful occasion where athletes from Jeonnam and Gwangju gather to embark on a new challenge.” He added, “I will join the hearts of the 1.8 million citizens of the city and province to cheer for the athletes, hoping that the sweat and noble efforts they have shed will bear valuable fruit in the fields of Jeju.”

Meanwhile, as the final part of the ceremony, the attendees took a group commemorative photo and chanted slogans wishing for fair play and well-being, demonstrating their enthusiasm for success in the tournament. Local residents are focusing their attention on the achievements the Jeonnam-Gwangju team will achieve at this tournament to be held in Jeju, as well as their efforts toward mutual growth through sports.
