South Jeolla Province Opens Additional Call for Applications for ‘Long-term Care Home Medical Centers’… “We Visit Seniors’ Homes”
A team of doctors, nurses, and social workers provides integrated medical and care services; relaxed operational standards lower barriers for medical institutions to participate… Applications accepted until the 22nd
(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province announced an additional call for new participating institutions for the ‘Long-term Care Home Medical Center’ to enable seniors with mobility difficulties to receive medical services comfortably in their own homes rather than at hospitals.
The ‘Long-term Care Home Medical Center’ is a project in which a team consisting of a doctor, a nurse, and a social worker visits the homes of long-term care insurance recipients directly. The core of the program is to provide customized medical services beyond simple consultations and to closely link necessary community care services. Eligibility applies to long-term care home care recipients in grades 1 through 5 and those in the cognitive support grade.
Currently, Jeollanam-do is taking the lead in resolving blind spots in medical care by operating a total of 36 home medical centers across all 22 cities and counties within the province. The centers are categorized into three types: dedicated medical institution type (24 centers), dedicated public health center type (6 centers), and collaborative type between medical institutions and public health centers (6 centers).
In particular, the operating criteria for the "collaborative type" have been significantly relaxed in this open call to encourage greater participation from medical institutions. Previously, nurses and social workers had to be affiliated with the public health center; however, participation is now possible even if the nurse is affiliated with a medical institution. Furthermore, the number of medical institutions where public health center personnel can collaborate has been expanded from one to two, which is expected to further enhance the utilization of local medical resources.
Medical institutions wishing to participate in the project must sign a business agreement with their local public health center and submit an application to the National Health Insurance Service by the upcoming 22nd. Jeong Gwang-seon, Director of the Health and Welfare Bureau of Jeollanam-do, stated, “The Home Medical Center is a thoroughly field-oriented service where medical professionals visit homes directly to manage the health of the elderly,” and urged, “I ask for the active interest and participation of medical institutions in the province so that elderly people with limited mobility can receive sufficient necessary medical care and support in the familiar homes where they spent their later years.”
