Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Successfully Concludes ‘J-Startup School 2nd Cohort Advanced Track’

Global entrepreneurship education conducted in Singapore for 6 nights and 8 days in collaboration with local universities and startups; 16 teams participated in AI and food sectors… Business Models refined through IR pitching and expert feedback

(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education has successfully concluded the ‘J-Startup School (2nd Cohort) Advanced Track’ program, designed to strengthen students’ global entrepreneurial capabilities.

The Office of Education announced that a total of 69 participants, including 16 teams (47 students and 16 collaborating teachers) in the fields of AI utilization and AI food, took part in this advanced track, which was held in Singapore for 6 nights and 8 days from the 4th to the 11th.

‘J-Startup School’ is a step-by-step (preliminary-expansion-advanced) entrepreneurship education program that discovers ideas based on local resources and future industries and develops them into actual business models. Since last May, participating students have completed entrepreneurship competency assessments, mentoring, and business model (BM) design; this trip to Singapore was undertaken with the goal of on-site evaluation and refinement.

Participants visited Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) to examine student startup cases and gain insights into future new industry trends through special lectures by NTU professors and food tech experts.

Subsequently, they visited BLOCK71, Singapore’s representative startup hub, and one-north, a research and innovation cluster, to observe the startup incubation environment. They also explored examples of problem-solving through technology convergence at Greenhood, an urban smart farm, and Autodesk, a global software company.

In the latter part of the program, after refining their BMs based on feedback from local experts, they held team IR pitching sessions and performance sharing events to enhance the feasibility and marketability of their startup items. Students who have completed the advanced track are scheduled to participate in the Korea Youth Entrepreneurship Competition and a mock investment briefing session. The Office of Education plans to provide continuous team mentoring and presentation opportunities to ensure that this is not just a one-time event.

Jeon Seong-ah, Head of the Career Education Division at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "It was a meaningful time to directly verify ideas developed domestically within a global entrepreneurial environment." She added, "We will spare no effort in providing step-by-step support to help students grow into glocal entrepreneurial talents who solve local problems from a global perspective."
