[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 1982년 경찰의 총기 난사로 무고한 주민 56명이 희생된 의령 4·26 위령제가 26일 의령4·26추모공원에서 거행됐다.
이날 위령제에는 유가족 30여 가구 114명을 비롯해 오태완 군수, 기관·단체장, 군민 등 350여 명이 참석해 그날의 아픔을 함께 기억하고 깊은 추모의 뜻을 나눴다.
의령 4·26 위령제는 사건 발생 42년 만인 2024년 처음으로 군 주최로 열리며 역사적인 전환점을 맞았다. 2025년에는 추모공원이 최종 조성되고 경남경찰청장의 참석 속에 공식 사과가 이뤄지며 의미를 더했다.
올해 세 번째 위령제는 별도의 대형 행사 없이 차분하게 진행됐지만, 추모가 일회성을 넘어 매년 이어지는 기억의 자리로 자리 잡고 있다.

이날 추모식에서는 의령 출신 김복근 시인의 위무시 ‘봉황대 벚꽃 지고 찰비산 철쭉 피었다’가 낭송되며 유가족의 오랜 아픔을 위로했다.
현장에는 유족 전원배 씨도 참석했다. 전 씨는 과거 방송에서 “위령탑 하나 세워 꽃이라도 놓아주는 것이 소원”이라고 말한 바 있다.
