Okcheon County Senior Welfare Center Launches "Visiting Disinfection Service" for the Rainy Season
With the rainy season in full swing, the Okcheon County Senior Welfare Center in North Chungcheong Province has rolled up its sleeves to protect the health of vulnerable elderly residents in the region and create a pleasant living environment.
In preparation for the rainy season, when high temperatures and humidity make it easy for pests and harmful bacteria to breed, the Okcheon County Senior Welfare Center will conduct the "2026 Disinfection Support Service for the Elderly at Home" for two days, from the 21st to the 22nd. This disinfection activity is a protection measure for the vulnerable, implemented as an extension of the housing environment improvement projects carried out last April, such as the installation of gas shut-off valves and safety handrails.
The beneficiaries are 40 households of elderly residents living at home in Okcheon-eup, Cheongseong-myeon, and Cheongsan-myeon. To prevent the effectiveness of disinfection from diminishing due to heavy rainfall, the center plans to conduct intensive disinfection over the two days after closely reviewing weather conditions. Welfare center staff will visit the target households in person to carry out spray disinfection inside and outside the homes using their own disinfection equipment. In addition, they plan to distribute four types of essential summer hygiene products—insect repellent, household insecticide, rat traps, and mosquito coils—to each senior citizen, providing two sets.
Notably, this service goes beyond simple disinfection and product delivery; it is expected to significantly contribute to infectious disease prevention and the establishment of a comprehensive care network by having staff personally check on the well-being of the seniors and thoroughly inspect the hygiene conditions of each household.
Oh Jae-hoon, Director of the Okcheon County Senior Welfare Center, stated that the center is paying continuous attention to improving living environments and hygiene management to ensure seniors can live safely and healthily at home. He added that, given the increased risk of infectious diseases during the rainy season, they will do their utmost to protect the health of seniors and strengthen the preventive care system through customized disinfection services.
