[Break News Gyeonggi South = Siheung Reporter Lee Hyun-jun] Siheung City is launching the 2026 Home-based Learning Support Project for Children of Multicultural Families to improve their Korean language proficiency and basic academic skills, and is accepting applications until May 15.

This project was established to help children who struggle with learning due to differences in language environments to adapt stably to school life.

A key feature is that visiting teachers visit homes in person to provide individualized instruction tailored to the child's developmental stage. For selected families, a teacher visits once a week to teach one subject from Hangeul, Korean Language, or Reading, conducting highly focused learning sessions lasting approximately 15 minutes per session.

Eligibility is open to children of multicultural families aged 4 to 11 residing in Siheung City, and applications can be submitted at the local Dong Administrative Welfare Center. A total of 60 spots are available. Priority is given to vulnerable groups, such as recipients of basic livelihood support, followed by multi-child families and families that did not receive support in the previous year. This initiative serves as a practical measure to bridge the educational gap for children from multicultural families and guarantee equal learning opportunities. The service method of visiting homes directly stands out for its thoughtful consideration in reducing the burden on households in childcare blind spots, such as dual-income families.
