Kim Dae-jung, Preliminary Candidate for Superintendent of Education for Gwangju Metropolitan City, Jeollanam-do, Signs ‘Future Education Policy Agreement’ with Life Agriculture Forum
Fostering K-Food Specialized High Schools and Strengthening Ecology and Human Rights Education… “Overcoming the Crisis of Regional Extinction by Combining Agri-bio Resources”
(Break News Gwangju·Jeonnam) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Kim Dae-jung, a preliminary candidate for Superintendent of Education for Gwangju Metropolitan City, Jeollanam-do, has embarked on a move to integrate the value of agriculture into the educational field to address the climate crisis and regional extinction.
On the 10th, Candidate Kim signed the ‘Life Agriculture and Future Education Policy Agreement in the Era of Climate Crisis’ with the Life Agriculture Forum and agreed to promote the fostering of K-Food specialized high schools and educational innovation centered on ecology and human rights.
The core of this agreement is to transform the region’s strength—agri-bio resources—into key content for future education. Both parties plan to foster a ‘Global Agri-bio Specialized High School based on K-Food Globalization’ to operate specialized education programs featuring Korean cooking and fermentation practice, as well as participation from local masters.
In particular, the plan envisions introducing an integrated curriculum that encompasses everything from production to processing, distribution, and export to support students in growing into global talents equipped with practical skills, thereby fostering pride in the region.
Creating an educational environment aligned with the era of the climate crisis has also been included as a major task. Under the agreement, an educational system that respects students' dignity and rights will be established through the expansion of climate justice education, the strengthening of labor rights education, and the creation of a school culture based on restorative justice.
Furthermore, to enhance trust in the educational field, they agreed to cooperate closely to ensure fairness and transparency in personnel, accounting, and facility budget management at private schools.
Educational welfare measures have also been prepared to address the crisis of regional decline. To improve the school meal environment in rural and fishing communities struggling with population decrease, a "hub-based logistics support system" will be established to bridge the gap in meal quality between regions and secure a stable infrastructure for meal support. Preliminary Candidate Kim Dae-jung emphasized, “In the face of the monumental challenges of the times, such as the climate crisis and regional decline, education must no longer remain confined to the classroom.” He added, “I will create a field-oriented education model that combines the abundant agricultural and bio-resources of Jeonnam and Gwangju with future education to nurture children’s lives and revitalize the region’s future.”
Meanwhile, Preliminary Candidate Kim and the Life Agriculture Forum plan to form a policy council and a working group to regularly monitor the implementation of the agreement and to further concretize specific projects.
