On the 20th, the Northern Gyeonggi Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs attended the “22nd Memorial and Security Experience Event for Boy Tank Soldiers Who Died in the Korean War,” held at the Army’s 3rd Tank Battalion in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of the boy tank soldiers who dedicated themselves to defending the homeland during the Korean War.

Hosted by the Korea Armored Veterans Association, this event was organized to commemorate the patriotic spirit of the boy tank soldiers who were deployed to the front lines to defend the country despite their young age, and to reflect on their meritorious service. The event was attended by Park Yong-ju, Head of the Northern Gyeonggi Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs; the Commander of the 3rd Infantry Division of the Republic of Korea Army; the President of the Korea Armored Veterans Association; surviving child tank soldier veterans; and other officials.

The ceremony proceeded in the order of awarding certificates of appreciation and commendations, laying wreaths, delivering a eulogy, and reciting the Tank Soldiers' Anthem.

Director Park Yong-ju presented a commendation to Yang Ji-hyun, a surviving child tank soldier veteran, expressing his gratitude and respect.

He also presented a commendation to the President of the Korea Armored Veterans Association, acknowledging his efforts in contributing to the promotion of honor and the spread of a culture of remembrance for child tank soldiers.

In his eulogy, Director Park emphasized, “I deeply appreciate the sacrifice and dedication of the young heroes who plunged into the flames,” adding, “Their noble spirit is a precious history that all of us living today must remember and carry on.” The Boy Tank Soldiers were non-commissioned officer candidates recruited by the Army in 1952. After completing basic military training and tank education, they were assigned to the 57th Independent Tank Company and distinguished themselves in major battles, including the Battle of Betty Hill on the Western Front.

Currently, the Korea Armored Veterans Association is promoting various memorial projects to widely publicize their sacrifices and contributions and to expand the recognition and respect they receive.

Chief Park Yong-ju stated, "The sacrifice and dedication shown by the Boy Tank Soldiers during the Korean War are a precious history that we must never forget," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to elevate the honor of the Boy Tank Soldiers and widely publicize their meritorious service to future generations."
