Peace marathoner Kang Myung-gu has published *Minjokhon*, a full-length historical novel that sheds light on the life and philosophy of Eastern peace of Patriot Ahn Jung-geun.

Published by Yeollin Seowon Publishing, *Minjokhon* is a work that broadly covers Ahn Jung-geun's life and thought, focusing on why he took up arms. It covers everything from his childhood days when he was known as "Eung-chil," through the Harbin Incident, to the impact he had both at home and abroad after his death.

In particular, unlike existing works about Ahn Jung-geun that focused solely on the Harbin Incident itself, *Minjokhon* deeply illuminates the growth process and historical awareness of the young Ahn Eung-chil, as well as the theory of Eastern peace he advocated until his dying moment, alongside his image as a thinker.

The core of the work lies in restoring Patriot Ahn Jung-geun's "Theory of Eastern Peace" as the spirit of the times for today. The novel highlights that Ahn Jung-geun was more than just an independence activist; he was a pioneering thinker who, 117 years ago, already envisioned an East Asian community, multilateral security cooperation, and the establishment of a common currency and a common bank. Through this, the work portrays how his philosophy aligns with the future vision of peace and cooperation in Northeast Asia today.

Although author Kang Myung-gu faced difficulties during the writing process, including suffering hemiplegia due to a stroke, he completed the work after dedicating himself to writing for three years. In a conversation with theater director Kim Eun-hee, he revealed his writing intent, stating, "I wanted to tell a story that even an ordinary human being, full of flaws, can rise up resolutely in the face of the times," and "I sought to restore Ahn Jung-geun not as a deified hero, but as a passionate human being."

The book launch featured congratulatory speeches from figures of various fields, as well as performances and recitations.

Park Cheong-su, a senior religious teacher who delivered the first congratulatory speech, revealed that after reading *Bitdureong-gil*—a book written by author Kang Myung-gu while traversing the American continent in 2015—in 2022, he was moved by Kang's determination for the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula and has been sponsoring the Global Village Run since its second edition. Chung Sye-kyun, former Speaker of the National Assembly and Prime Minister who will assume the position of Chairman of the Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Society on September 2, evaluated *The Spirit of the Nation* in his congratulatory remarks, stating, “Beyond a simple biography of a great man or a narrative of an anti-Japanese hero, this is a thought-provoking work that offers a fresh reflection on the meaning of nation, history, peace, and revolution through the fateful confrontation between two figures, Ahn Jung-geun and Ito Hirobumi, set against the backdrop of turbulent modern East Asia.”

He further expressed his anticipation for the work, saying, “It will serve as an opportunity to further spread Ahn Jung-geun’s philosophy of Eastern peace.” Former Prime Minister Chung also received applause from the attendees for remarks expressing his hope that Park Cheong-su, a religious instructor who has carried out service and support activities in 55 countries over the past 56 years, would become the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, following former President Kim Dae-jung in 2000.

Former National Assembly member Yang Ki-dae stated that he has been sponsoring Peace Marathoner Kang Myung-gu since 2017, when he served as the Mayor of Gwangmyeong, saying, “I am sponsoring him because I believe Marathoner Kang Myung-gu’s activities will have a significant impact on world peace, particularly on the opening of the Eurasian railway.”

Former Seoul Superintendent of Education Kwak No-hyun highly praised Peace Marathoner Kang Myung-gu for embarking on his second global run in 2020 despite suffering from the aftereffects of a stroke, where he had an audience with Pope Francis and conveyed the importance of peace on the Korean Peninsula. He also shared an anecdote about Kang proposing a peace mass at Panmunjom to the Pope and expressed his hope that the “Run to the North” that Kang Myung-gu longs for will definitely come to fruition next year.

Various cultural performances followed at the book launch. Vocalist Lee Ho-jong performed a song, while Master Singer Jeong Dae-ho graced the stage with a Pansori performance. Professor Song In-yeop, who co-authored *I Run* with Peace Marathoner Kang Myung-gu following the 1st World Run, recited a congratulatory poem. Young man Cha Woo-jin recited key scenes from *The National Spirit*, reflecting on the spirit of Patriot Ahn Jung-geun.

Sponsor Heo Jae-won introduced the necessity of producing a film about "Peace Marathoner Kang Myung-gu" and outlined future plans.

On this day, Peace Marathoner Kang Myung-gu also presented a donation of 1 million won to Kim Pil-soo, representative of the Kyrgyzstan Korean Language School Supporters Association.

Through *The National Spirit*, author Kang Myung-gu portrays Ahn Jung-geun not as a preserved hero, but as a human being who agonized and acted amidst the realities of his time; at the same time, he revives the dream of peace in the East that he harbored until the very end as a contemporary issue.

The work poses the question to readers: "Who is Ahn Jung-geun to us today?" along with the question: "Who will carry on the dream of peace in the East that has not yet ended?" The contemporary message conveyed by *National Spirit* is drawing attention in that it goes beyond merely remembering past history to envisioning peace and the future of Northeast Asia through the philosophy of Ahn Jung-geun.

Approximately 200 people attended the book launch event, including former Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor Oh Hoo-seok, Gyodong Guardian Kim Young-ae, AOK Representative Jung Yeon-jin, Korean Writers Association Director and poet Kang Min-sook, Yutawon Teacher Lee Ji-yeon, Daeryuk School Alumni Association President Jung In-jo, Citizens' Solidarity for Unification Co-representative Moon Jung-ki, Heungsadan Branch President Kim Jang-seok, Korea Institute for the Advancement of the Rule of Law Lee Seon-shin, Gangdong 50 Center Humanities Classroom Sikkum Village members Jeong Sang-mo, Hwang Yeon-sik, and Kwak Mi-kyung, Unification TV President Jin Cheon-gyu, Principal Heo Ik-bae, author Cho Yong-pil, and Venerable Bogum (Won-ung), Korea Representative of the World Buddhist Network. Attendees celebrated the publication by discussing the patriotic spirit of Ahn Jung-geun and the global citizenship spirit pursued by peace marathoner Kang Myung-gu at the book launch and after-party.
