S. Korean Earth-observation satellite to be launched from U.S. base in July
SEOUL, May 21 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean Earth-observation satellite is set to be launched in the United States in July, the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA) said Thursday.
The next-generation medium satellite No. 4, will be launched on a Space X Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California.
South Korea plans to use the satellite for agricultural monitoring and forest resource observation, the space agency added.
KASA and other related institutions held a meeting at the Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd.'s headquarters in Sacheon, some 375 kilometers south of Seoul, to check the satellite before it is moved to the launch site starting next month.
The satellite is the fourth of its kind developed under the government-led initiative to standardize a versatile 500-kilogram Earth-observation platform.
