KEPCO KDN Holds '2026 Safety Manager Enhancement Training'... "Shifting Safety Paradigm Through Experiential Education"
Keynote Speech by President Park Sang-hyung... "Urging Cultivation of Risk Sensitivity and Identification of Field-Oriented Tasks" - Invited Lecture by Professor Han Young-seok of Hoseo University and Practical Session in Cooperation with Safety Expert Organization 'Inbon' - Derived Over 15 Safety Action Tasks Immediately Applicable to the Field... Accelerating Follow-up Management and Building a Safety Ecosystem
(Naju = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = KEPCO KDN, a public enterprise specializing in energy ICT, announced that it conducted the ‘2026 Safety Manager (Personnel) Safety Awareness Enhancement Training’ for three days and two nights from the 10th to the 12th at the Hongik University International Training Center in Sejong City.
A total of 91 people attended the training, including KEPCO KDN’s company-wide safety managers and those scheduled to be appointed, as well as labor and management representatives from the Industrial Safety and Health Committee. This initiative was planned to enhance risk sensitivity and raise safety awareness among employees, noting that recent industrial accidents primarily stem from behavioral factors—such as workers' lack of risk awareness or non-compliance with safety rules—rather than defects in facilities or equipment.
In particular, KEPCO KDN attempted a paradigm shift away from traditional lecture-based education toward "tangible on-site safety" based on experience and practice. To this end, a new participatory education model was introduced that links hands-on practice, team-based assignments, and the development of on-site application plans.
In a keynote speech preceding the main event, KEPCO KDN President Park Sang-hyung shared the company's safety and health management policy and encouraged employees' efforts toward meaningful experiences and on-site safety. He also strongly urged the achievement of two educational goals: ▲ cultivating risk sensitivity and instilling safe behavior habits through experiential training (change in perception), and ▲ securing practical accident prevention and execution capabilities by identifying on-site improvement tasks (on-site improvement).
Following this, external experts, including professors specializing in industrial safety engineering, delivered specialized lectures. Professor Han Young-seok of Hoseo University, who served as the first speaker, emphasized, “More than 80% of safety accidents stem from unsafe human behavior,” adding that “to enhance risk sensitivity, the psychological stability and safety awareness of individual members must be prioritized.” He also stressed the importance of enhancing ‘risk sensitivity,’ which involves recognizing potential risks in advance, refusing to accept dangerous situations as inevitable, and actively seeking to improve them.
During the “Like the Real Thing, Like the Field” session held on the second day of the training, full-scale experiential education took place in collaboration with INBOHN, a leading domestic safety expert organization. Participants analyzed potential risk factors in actual work environments through the analysis of experiential videos, team discussions, and on-site case studies, and spent time establishing customized action plans for each business unit.
As a result, KEPCO KDN achieved the success of identifying over 15 field-oriented safety action tasks through this training. Key tasks identified include strengthening the system for proactively identifying on-site risk factors, enhancing the effectiveness of on-site safety inspections, spreading a culture of autonomous safety among partner companies, and strengthening the execution of risk assessments; all of these contain concrete implementation plans that can be immediately applied in the field.
