“Seize the Golden Time Inside Schools”… Jeonnam Gwangju Office of Education Holds Specialized First Aid Training for School Nurses

‘2026 School Nurse First Aid Course’ to be Operated at Gwangju Health University on the 13th and 14th; Practical Response Capabilities Strengthened Through Linkage with Korean Basic Life Support (KBLS) Provider Certification Course

(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Specialized practical training is being held to protect the lives of students and staff in the event of sudden emergencies within schools and to establish a rapid and accurate health response system.

The Jeonnam Gwangju Office of Education announced that it will operate the ‘2026 School Nurse First Aid Course’ for school nurses within its jurisdiction at Gwangju Health University for two days, from August 13 to 14.

This training is designed to further enhance the initial response expertise of school nurses in critical situations that may occur within schools, such as cardiac arrest and airway obstruction, and to enable them to master basic life support techniques aligned with the latest healthcare guidelines. This training course is conducted as a Korea Basic Life Support (KBLS) Provider program accredited by the Korean Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. It is characterized by a practice-oriented curriculum that prioritizes on-site applicability, going beyond simple one-time lectures.

Key contents include the latest CPR guidelines, chest-compression-based CPR, the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and emergency treatment for airway obstruction. The course is conducted with a focus on theory and practice that can be immediately applied in the field.

Health teachers participating in the training will obtain official KBLS Provider certification if they meet the established evaluation and completion criteria. Through this, they are expected to secure professional authority as emergency first aid educators and on-site responders.

As school environments are spaces where large numbers of students congregate, there is always a possibility of emergency situations occurring where every second counts, such as during physical activities, meal times, or when abnormal symptoms appear. The Office of Education plans to significantly increase the rate of securing the "golden time" by strengthening the capabilities of school nurses, who serve as the primary health managers within schools, through this training.

Kim Pil-mo, Head of the Physical Education, Health, and Arts Education Division at the Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, emphasized, "Appropriate and rapid physical and technical responses by school nurses during school emergencies are directly linked to protecting the lives of students and staff." He added, "I hope this training serves as a decisive opportunity to individually enhance the professional capabilities of school nurses and, furthermore, to establish a more robust safety response system both inside and outside the school."

The Office of Education plans to continue conducting regular refresher training on first aid for school nurses, as well as consistently carrying out inspections of emergency equipment and the advancement of response manuals within schools at all levels.
