European Deep Tech Innovation Unfolds at COEX… Visiting the 'EU Business Hub' at ENVEX 2026
Advanced European green technologies aimed at overcoming the climate crisis have landed in large numbers at COEX in Seoul. The scene at the 47th International Environmental Industry Technology & Green Energy Exhibition (ENVEX 2026), the largest domestic environment and energy exhibition held at COEX Hall A from May 20 to 22. The 'EU Pavilion,' boasting the largest scale within the exhibition hall, was radiating intense energy from the very first day of the opening, bustling with officials from Korean companies seeking to examine cutting-edge climate technology and explore cooperation opportunities.
This large-scale participation was planned as part of the 'EU Business Hub,' a global industrial cooperation program supported by the European Union (EU). This initiative, which aims to expand business partnerships in three key sectors—digital, healthcare, and green low-carbon—in Korea and Japan from 2024 to 2027, introduced a total of 41 promising European SMEs and startups to the Korean ecosystem through the ENVEX stage.

See, touch, and discuss Europe's green technology firsthand
The interior of the 'EU Pavilion' was organized into four sectors: the circular economy, energy systems, clean energy technologies, and environmental monitoring and analysis equipment. Specifically, it brought together the latest green technologies from various European countries, ranging from water treatment solutions and renewable energy technologies to battery storage systems, biogas plants, and hydrogen generation systems. Throughout the booths, scenes unfolded of European representatives traveling in person sitting down with Korean buyers and stakeholders to explain technical specifications and discuss concrete cooperation plans.
Interior view of the EU Pavilion. Active business consultations are taking place between domestic stakeholders and European innovation companies at their booths.
The lineup of the 41 participating companies was also diverse. Italy's AECI Srl showcased biotechnology solutions specialized in wastewater treatment and industrial emission control, backed by approximately 40 years of R&D experience, while Latvia's deep tech startup Snow Recycle attracted the attention of domestic industry insiders with biodegradable biomaterials made from agricultural byproducts such as grain husks and plant fibers. Germany's ContainerGrid GmbH introduced an AI-based circular economy platform that automates the end-of-life management of industrial assets, such as batteries and transformers, and prominently displayed a strategic message at the front of its booth directly targeting the Korean battery and automotive industries as they respond to global circularity regulations.
In the energy storage sector, Germany's STOFF2's ZZE (Zinc Intermediate Electrolysis Unit) clearly drew the most attention. Visitors lingered for a long time due to its eco-friendly design, which integrates conventional water electrolysis devices and batteries into a single unit to enable 24-hour green hydrogen production and uses absolutely no harmful substances such as PFAS (perfluorinated compounds). The Netherlands' SoluForce BV showcased a non-metallic flexible composite pipe system specialized for hydrogen and CO₂ transportation, while Ireland's Lumcloon Energy presented a large-capacity Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and CO₂-based long-duration energy storage technology, respectively, exploring potential for cooperation in the field of energy transition infrastructure.
The environmental monitoring sector also offered plenty to see. Sweden's BPC Instruments AB garnered attention for its analysis platform that automates the measurement of biogas potential, while Germany's smartGAS Mikrosensorik GmbH drew notice for its high-precision NDIR gas sensors, which are widely used for everything from gas leak detection to carbon capture support. The Czech Republic's Agdata Smart introduced a smart city monitoring solution that combines IoT and sensor technology to manage urban air quality and noise in real time, demonstrating strong interest in collaborating with Korean local governments.
European companies directly 'showcase' their technological capabilities at pitching sessions
At 2:00 PM on the 21st, a pitching session was held in a session area near the EU Pavilion, where participating companies introduced their technologies in person. Company representatives from Germany, Spain, Italy, and other countries took the stage in turn to present their technologies and potential for cooperation in the Korean market for several minutes.
Frederik Dalum of the Danish company Dalum Beverage Equipment is explaining the technical features of a small-scale carbon dioxide (CO2) capture system for craft beer on the stage of the participating companies' pitching session held on the 21st.
At the event, a representative from Sweden's Hexicon AB, the Munmu Baram project, introduced a 750MW floating offshore wind project currently under development in the waters off Ulsan and stated that they are preparing to participate in the bidding process in the second half of 2026. A representative from Estonia's Insta Globe emphasized their localization strategy, noting that they already have a subsidiary in Korea. Josha Kneiber, CEO of Germany's hyCLEANER GmbH, stated, "The loss in power generation efficiency due to solar panel contamination reaches up to 30%," and added that they are actively seeking distribution partners to enter the Korean market for their robotic cleaning solutions.
Individual business meetings followed the pitching session. The EU Business Hub arranged customized 1:1 matching meetings between representatives of Korean companies and institutions and participating European companies, and provided professional interpretation services to facilitate smooth business communication on-site.
Following the successful conclusion of this event, the next International Environmental Industry Technology & Green Energy Exhibition, 'ENVEX 2027', is scheduled to be held at COEX from June 9 to 11 next year.
Implementing eco-friendly principles into practical industrial solutions
At this event, trends extending beyond the mere "introduction of European technology" were discernible. The EU views Korea as a key partner for green and low-carbon industrial cooperation and appears to be utilizing industrial exhibitions like ENVEX as a point of contact for promotion and long-term collaboration. Amidst the intensifying waves of environmental regulations, such as the European Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), the forefront of a global technology alliance aimed at turning crisis into opportunity was effectively established right here at ENVEX 2026.
European companies met at ENVEX 2026 commonly emphasized that “the technology is already ready, and what is needed now is local partnerships.” The key keyword filling the exhibition hall was closer to a “lively industrial transition” rather than merely slogans of eco-friendliness. Attention is focused on the future moves of Korean and European companies as they develop cooperation models centered on the common goals of carbon neutrality and energy transition.
