Chungju City Unveils Experiential Children's Rights Program in Partnership with Local Community
2nd 'Our Rights Blooming with Flowers' Program Successfully Concludes
Chungju City continues its efforts to create a child-friendly urban environment that respects children's rights and allows them to grow up healthy.
On the 22nd, Chungju successfully concluded the 2nd 'Our Rights Blooming with Flowers' program, which was planned as part of the public contest project to create a child-friendly city. Hosted by Chungju City and organized by the Chungju Junior Chamber of Commerce, this project is an experiential program designed to allow children and parents to participate together to learn about children's rights and to express their rights proactively through the medium of flowers.
Thirty children and parents participated in the program, which was conducted in two sessions. The first session, held on the 8th, included education on the four major rights of children as well as time for communication while making flower baskets. In the second event held on the 22nd, the participants went a step further; following the rights education, all participants joined forces to jointly create a large 'flower arch.' Through this process, the children learned to respect each other's opinions and cooperate, naturally internalizing that they are confident subjects of their own rights. The flower arch, completed by the hands of the children and their parents, is scheduled to be used as a symbol to promote the value of Chungju as a child-friendly city.
Oh Se-jeong, President of the Chungju Junior Chamber of Commerce, who organized the event, stated that it was a meaningful time where children learned to freely express their emotions and respect differences through the medium of flowers. He emphasized that the city will continue to make sustained efforts to ensure that local children understand their rights and can voice their opinions.
An official from Chungju City stated that creating an environment where children can grow up happy and healthy is the city administration's top priority. They further announced that they will continue to work closely with various relevant local organizations to identify and promote policies and tangible projects that solidify the value of a child-friendly city.
