Chungbuk Office of Education Launches Overseas Exploration Activities for ‘26 Chungbuk Gifted Nobel Project’
The Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education has officially launched the ‘2026 Chungbuk Gifted Nobel Project,’ an 11-day, 9-night overseas program designed to enhance the global leadership and self-directed creative capabilities of local gifted students.
This project involves a total of 28 participants, including 20 students selected from gifted education institutions within the province, as well as supervising teachers and chaperones. The program will take place across the UK, Sweden, and Denmark, where team-based research tasks will be deepened by integrating them with local activities. Students will be divided into five teams based on various themes such as mathematics, maker culture, and inquiry, allowing them to directly experience sites related to science, education, and culture associated with the Nobel Prize.
Participating students will tour Oxford University, the Science Museum of London, and the Greenwich Observatory in the UK, and visit the Nobel Museum, Uppsala University, and Stockholm City Hall in Sweden to investigate the history of academic and scientific development from various perspectives. In addition, the program involves a cultural exchange initiative where students visit local schools in person to share their prepared lessons, and they explore future career paths through special lectures by officials from the Association of Korean Scientists and Engineers in Scandinavia. In Denmark, the schedule includes an integrated observation of history and culture.
To ensure the substance of the project, the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education conducted three preliminary training sessions starting last June, thoroughly reviewing safety education and team-specific overseas exploration plans. An official from the Office of Education, who saw off the students and their supervising teachers at the departure site, urged the students to broaden their global perspectives and grow into future leaders who contribute to the advancement of humanity, just as past Nobel laureates have pioneered new paths through ceaseless questioning and challenges.
Meanwhile, the Chungcheongbuk-do Office of Education plans to hold a return performance sharing session as soon as the students' overseas schedule concludes to share the process and achievements of their team projects with the local educational community.
