Cheongju City Accelerates Creation of a Wood-Friendly City… Completion of Experience Center in October Following Improvements to Wood-Specialized Street

Cheongju City has successfully completed improvement work on facilities at the Sudong Wood-Specialized Street, which was undertaken to provide a safer and more convenient pedestrian environment for citizens visiting the street.

The Wood-Specialized Street, spanning 0.3 km in the area around the Sudong Observatory in Sangdang-gu, is an urban resting space created by actively utilizing wood—an eco-friendly carbon storage material—to feature a Wood Skywalk, Nest Shelter Observatory, and wooden sculptures.

Cheongju City commenced improvement work last July to significantly enhance the safety and convenience of citizens using the wood deck path. Through this construction, additional railings were added to the top of the existing fences, and connecting brackets were precisely secured to increase durability. Furthermore, pedestrian safety throughout the facility was strengthened by installing new handrails to ensure safe movement for the mobility-impaired and visitors with limited mobility.

Cheongju City Accelerates Creation of a Wood-Friendly City… Pushing for Completion of Experience Center in October Following Improvements to Wood-Specialized Street

Cheongju City has successfully completed improvement work on facilities aimed at providing a safer and more convenient pedestrian environment for citizens using the wood deck path. A Cheongju City official stated that they will do their utmost to establish the Wood-Specialized Street as an eco-friendly resting place that all citizens can use with peace of mind by continuously inspecting and meticulously managing the facilities.

Meanwhile, the newly improved Wood-Specialized Street is a key facility of the 'Wood-Friendly City Creation Project,' which Cheongju City is currently pursuing by investing a total of 5 billion won across an area of approximately 70,000 square meters in the Suamgol region. Following the completion of the Wood-Specialized Street, construction of the Wood Culture Experience Center—which involves remodeling the existing Sangdang Youth Culture Center—is also progressing smoothly, with completion targeted for this coming October. Cheongju City expects that once the experience center is completed, it will create significant synergy for the revitalization of the local economy and tourism in the Suamgol area by linking with nearby tourism resources, such as the Uamsan Mountain Trail and the Sudong Urban Regeneration New Deal Project.
