Changnyeong County Invests 2.9 Billion Won in Livestock Odor Reduction… Strengthening Smart Management
Implementing 17 Projects… Introducing ICT for Odor Measurement and Expanding 'Clean Livestock Farms'
Changnyeong County announced on the 21st that it will invest a total of 2.9 billion won in 17 projects this year to reduce livestock odors and improve the living environment for residents.
The county plans to encourage voluntary environmental improvements and strengthen management capabilities by farms through initiatives such as supporting livestock odor reduction facilities and equipment, improving the environment of livestock farms, and supporting livestock manure treatment facilities.
The designation of 'Clean Livestock Farms' is also expanding. The number of designated farms increased from 10 in 2023 to 57 last year, and as of the end of May this year, 26 additional farms were designated, bringing the total to 83.
Smart technology has also been introduced to manage livestock odors in real time. The county invested 60 million won in project funds to install ICT-based odor measurement equipment in three areas with frequent odor complaints and established a real-time monitoring system.
Forty farms are participating in the low-carbon agriculture pilot program. Five farms feeding low-methane (nitrogen) feed and 35 farms shortening rearing periods are participating to promote the reduction of livestock odor and greenhouse gases.
Changnyeong County Governor Seong Nak-in stated, "Reducing livestock odor is a critical task for protecting the residents' living environment," adding, "We will reduce inconvenience for residents by combining financial support, the introduction of smart technologies, on-site guidance, and communication with farms."
