Jincheon County Establishes Differentiated Waterfront Tourism Belt by Connecting Songgang Cultural Creative Village and Chopyeong Lake

Jincheon County is accelerating its leap toward becoming a representative stay-type tourism city in the central region by organically combining the region's abundant historical and cultural resources with its waterfront ecological resources.

Jincheon County has designated the Confucian Culture Zone, the Chopyeong Lake Zone, and the Baekgok Lake Zone as its three core tourism axes and has been expanding infrastructure tailored to the unique characteristics of each zone. Through this, the county is pursuing a multifaceted transition from tourism where visitors merely stop by and leave to a stay-type tourism structure where visitors stay and enjoy the region.

First, the creation of infrastructure that reinterprets Jincheon's historical and literary values in a modern way stands out. The Songgang Cultural Creative Village, constructed in the Munbaek-myeon area with a total project cost of 16.2 billion won, began operations last November. Revitalizing the literary world of Songgang Jeong Cheol, a literati of the mid-Joseon Dynasty, this site has established itself as an experiential cultural space where visitors can directly experience history and culture by linking the Songgang Literature Museum with diverse hands-on programs.

Jincheon County Establishes a Differentiated Waterfront Tourism Belt by Connecting Songgang Cultural Creative Village and Chopyeong Lake In addition, the Chopyeong Book Village development project is underway in the Chopyeong-myeon area, involving a total investment of 12.3 billion won to restore Wanwigak, a private library from the late Joseon Dynasty, and construct Ssang-ojeong, a two-story pavilion. With the goal of completion and opening in the second half of this year, the plan is to utilize it as a new hub for knowledge and culture sharing that connects books, history, and culture.

The competitiveness of waterfront tourism resources is also being significantly strengthened. The Chopyeong Lake area, which has successfully become a tourist attraction through Chopyeong Lake Mir 309—the longest towerless suspension bridge in Korea—and Jincheon Nongdari Bridge, is expanding connecting content to further extend visitors' stay.

This tourism enthusiasm extends to Baekgok Lake and Guam Reservoir. At Baekgok Lake, a 13.6 km National Ecological Exploration Trail and a 350 m-long Bridge of Hope are being constructed to establish a foundation for wellness tourism, allowing visitors to enjoy both relaxation and ecological experiences amidst pristine nature. Guam Reservoir is also being reborn as a healing space through the improvement of walking trails and the expansion of rest facilities, following the opening of the first phase of its walking trail project, which features a waterside deck and a circular observation deck.

Beyond expanding facilities, Jincheon County plans to continuously develop transportation networks connecting each region and local experience content to extend tourists' stays and boost local consumption.

Kang Seon-mi, Head of the Culture and Tourism Division of Jincheon County, emphasized that Jincheon boasts a coexistence of outstanding natural environments, including Nongdari Bridge and Chopyeong Lake, and historical assets such as the scholar Songgang Jeong Cheol. She stated that the county aims to create a premium, stay-type tourist city that visitors will want to return to by connecting regional resources into a single, solid tourism belt.
