South Jeolla Province Usheres in the ‘Era of 10 Million Garden Tourists’… Launches Nation’s First Dedicated Program

In collaboration with the National Garden Institute, courses are organized by region, season, and theme across 77 locations – 50% of admission fees refunded in local currency… Commemorative medals presented upon completion of the stamp tour

(Muan/Suncheon = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province is partnering with the National Garden Institute to launch the nation’s first garden tourism program in earnest, aiming to lead the ‘Era of 10 Million Garden Tourists.’

The province announced that it will operate customized tourism courses by region, season, and theme, utilizing a total of 77 locations within the region, including private gardens, arboretums, and forest recreation facilities. In particular, to alleviate the financial burden on tourists—a suggestion made during last year’s pilot operation—the province is introducing an unprecedented benefit of refunding 50% of admission fees in local currency.

This program is operated in two formats tailored to tourists' preferences: a "self-guided one-day course" and an "overnight course" (1 night 2 days or 2 nights 3 days).

The self-guided course, centered around 35 private gardens and arboretums, is characterized by the ability to travel freely without being bound by a fixed schedule. Participants who complete visits to 10, 20, or 35 locations, respectively, and submit their stamp tour books will receive a commemorative medal and the opportunity to be invited as VIPs to the "2026 Private Garden Festa."

The program will be operated a total of 19 times during the spring, autumn, and vacation seasons, when the atmosphere of the gardens is at its peak. It includes the three major private villa gardens of the Honam region and the Healing Forest, and professional garden guides will accompany participants to share in-depth stories related to the gardens. The program is also planned to offer a high-quality healing travel experience by combining gourmet experiences, such as visits to local restaurants.

Those wishing to participate can check detailed information on the National Garden Culture Institute website. Participation in the self-guided course is available at any time, while applications for the overnight course should be submitted according to the announced recruitment schedule.

Kim Jeong-seop, Director General of the Environment and Forestry Bureau of Jeollanam-do, stated, “Jeollanam-do is the optimal destination for garden tourism, where beautiful traditional and modern gardens coexist.” He added, “Through this program, we aim to enhance the brand value of Namdo gardens and lead the way in ushering in a tourism era where garden culture becomes a part of daily life, just like in the UK or France.”
