South Jeolla Province Conducts Special Hygiene Inspections of Multi-Use Facilities Ahead of Summer Season… ‘All-out Effort to Block Food Poisoning’

Joint inspections of 357 locations, including kids cafes, golf courses, and funeral homes, to be conducted for 5 days starting the 18th; collection and testing of frequently consumed cooked foods to be carried out concurrently… Focusing on resolving hygiene blind spots

(Muan = Break News) Reporter Lee Hak-su = South Jeolla Province is stepping up hygiene management for restaurants within multi-use facilities to prevent food poisoning and foster a safe dining culture ahead of the peak summer outing season.

South Jeolla Province announced that it will conduct joint hygiene inspections with relevant agencies for five days from the 18th to the 22nd, targeting a total of 357 locations including restaurants and cafes within multi-use facilities and hygiene-vulnerable facilities such as kids cafes, animal cafes, golf courses, wedding halls, funeral homes, comic book cafes, PC cafes, and hotels.

This inspection was organized to preemptively block the risk of food poisoning and raise the overall hygiene standards of multi-use facilities, as the floating population is expected to surge during the summer along with rising temperatures. The province plans to thoroughly verify the safety of distributed food by simultaneously collecting and inspecting frequently consumed prepared foods, such as tteokbokki, hamburgers, and coffee.

Key inspection points include: ▲ whether business owners and employees have undergone health examinations; ▲ whether expired food is being sold, used, or stored; ▲ the hygienic condition of kitchens and cooking facilities; ▲ compliance with hygiene management standards, such as the wearing of sanitary uniforms and caps by cooking staff; and ▲ other compliance with food hygiene laws and regulations.

In addition to inspections, the province will also conduct on-site guidance and promotional activities targeting restaurant owners and employees regarding courteous service, the six major rules for preventing food poisoning, and personal hygiene management. Through this, the province aims to enhance the hygiene management capabilities of establishments and create a dining environment where tourists can use facilities with peace of mind.

Prior to this, Jeonnam Province conducted a joint inspection with cities and counties last March targeting 405 restaurants in major tourist areas and multi-use facilities. During the inspection, 21 establishments (a non-compliance rate of 5.1%) were found to be in violation of the Food Sanitation Act, and administrative sanctions and guidance measures were taken.

Jeong Gwang-seon, Director General of the Health and Welfare Bureau of Jeonnam Province, stated, "We are continuously identifying and inspecting blind spots in hygiene so that residents and tourists visiting Jeonnam can enjoy dining out with peace of mind." He added, "We will do our utmost to create a safe and healthy food environment by strengthening on-site hygiene management and proactive food safety inspections."
