Jeonnam Gwangju Special City Holds ‘Tourism Readiness Improvement Campaign’ in Ahead of Yeosu World Island Expo and Autumn Season

Declares Three Key Action Items: ‘Kindness, Cleanliness, and Honesty’… Conducts Large-Scale Promotional Activities at Yeosu Yi Sun-sin Square; Promotes Eradication of Price Gouging Through Distribution of Goods to Food and Accommodation Establishments and Continuous On-Site Inspections

(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Jeonnam Gwangju Special City has launched a large-scale on-site campaign to provide a pleasant and reliable travel environment for visitors to the southern region ahead of the hosting of the ‘2026 Yeosu World Island Expo’ and the peak autumn tourism season.

On the 3rd, the Special City conducted the ‘Tourism Readiness Improvement Campaign’ in the area around Yeosu Yi Sun-sin Square with local tourism industry workers, officials from related organizations, and citizens. This campaign was organized to promote the successful hosting of the Yeosu World Island Expo, a large-scale international event, and to raise the overall quality of local tourism services in line with the concentrated tourism demand during the autumn season.

On this day, the participants officially declared three key action items to elevate the quality of tourism in the Namdo region: ▲ providing friendly service that considers tourists, ▲ strictly managing cleanliness and hygiene in restaurants and accommodations, and ▲ establishing honest pricing free from price gouging and a fair trade order.

During the subsequent street campaign, participants marched through major shopping districts and streets around Yi Sun-sin Square wearing picket signs and sashes, appealing for the active interest and participation of citizens and merchants. In particular, they visited local restaurants and accommodations in person to distribute promotional materials, such as leaflets containing the three tasks for improving tourism readiness and hygiene aprons designed to encourage voluntary compliance, urging merchants to make autonomous self-regulatory efforts.

The Integrated Special City plans to continue conducting ongoing on-site inspections of major tourist attractions, commercial districts, and food and lodging establishments, rather than limiting these efforts to a one-off event. The city intends to proactively resolve major inconveniences for tourists and eradicate unfair pricing practices and price gouging to establish a stay-type tourism environment where everyone can enjoy themselves with peace of mind.

Ko Gwang-wan, Vice Mayor for Cultural Industry of Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, emphasized, “Tourism is not completed merely by outstanding natural scenery and attractions. It becomes a premium travel destination that people want to visit again only when friendly smiles experienced on-site, a clean environment, and honest prices come in harmony.” He added, “I hope that tourism industry professionals and local residents will all unite with one heart and mind so that all tourists visiting Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, can return home with only good memories amidst warm hospitality.”
