Eumseong County Operates ‘Rural House Call Bus’ in Saenggeuk-myeon… Provides Medical Support to Over 200 Elderly Farmers

Eumseong County provided visiting medical welfare services for elderly residents in rural areas with limited access to medical care.

Eumseong County announced that it operated the ‘Rural House Call Bus’ on the 22nd at the Saenggeuk Elementary School gymnasium in collaboration with the Nonghyup Eumseong County Branch and Saenggeuk Nonghyup. This event, promoted as part of a project overseen by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, involved professional medical staff and optometrists visiting rural areas to provide comprehensive welfare services.

Following the previous operation in Samseong-myeon, this time the health of approximately 200 elderly farmers aged 65 and older residing in Saenggeuk-myeon was monitored. With a total project budget of 24 million won, medical staff from Semyung University Oriental Medicine Hospital and officials from Saenggeuk Nonghyup participated in the volunteer activities.

At the site, a variety of services practically needed by the elderly were provided, including traditional Korean medicine treatments for farmers suffering from musculoskeletal disorders due to agricultural labor, as well as oral examinations, vision testing, and the provision of customized reading glasses.

Eumseong County Governor Jo Byeong-ok stated that the elderly, who previously found it difficult to visit hospitals due to transportation inconveniences and busy farming schedules, are now able to receive medical benefits close to home. He added that he would continue to strive to resolve blind spots in rural medical care and enhance the welfare of residents.

Meanwhile, Eumseong County plans to operate the next rural medical bus service at the Eumseong Bandabi National Sports Center on August 20, targeting elderly farmers residing in Eumseong-eup, Soi-myeon, and Wonnam-myeon.
