"Saving Lives in Emergency Situations"… Gwangju Bank Conducts CPR Training for Local Residents and Employees
Linked to the 2026 Ulchi Exercise… Practice-oriented training including AED usage and the Heimlich maneuver; running in the main branch lobby on the 1st floor until the 20th… Open to all local residents
(Break News Jeonnam Gwangju) Reporter Lee Hak-su = Gwangju Bank held a meaningful event to further strengthen the safety net of the local community in conjunction with the ‘2026 Ulchi Exercise,’ which aims to establish a national emergency preparedness posture.
Gwangju Bank announced that on the 18th, it conducted ‘Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Training’ for local residents and its employees in the lobby on the 1st floor of its main branch in Dong-gu, Gwangju, to enhance emergency first aid capabilities.
This training was designed to improve response capabilities for cardiac arrest and extraordinary emergency situations that can occur at any time in daily life, such as at work, home, or public places. The purpose is to protect precious lives by enhancing response capabilities within the "golden hour," as the swift and accurate initial response of the first witness in an emergency situation determines the patient's survival rate.
On-site, training was conducted using practice mannequins designed to resemble the human body structure and educational equipment, moving beyond simple theoretical instruction to provide hands-on experience. Participants directly learned core survival skills, such as the correct placement and operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), proper CPR techniques including chest compressions and artificial respiration, and the Heimlich maneuver—an emergency procedure for patients with airway obstruction caused by food. In addition, fire safety education was conducted concurrently, covering the use of fire extinguishers—essential for initial fire suppression—and the practical operation of indoor fire hydrants, reinforcing the significance of national security and safety.
Gwangju Bank has consistently made multifaceted efforts to ensure the safety of its financial consumers and employees. The bank incorporates CPR practice as a mandatory component of its annual regular training curriculum for internal security guards. In particular, it systematically manages practical response capabilities by requiring security personnel at the headquarters to complete commissioned advanced training courses from external professional organizations every year.
This CPR training program will continue to run until the 20th in the first-floor lobby of the Gwangju Bank headquarters. Any local resident interested in safety or wishing to learn first aid skills can freely participate in the training on-site without prior registration.
Son Hee-dae, Head of Safety Management at Gwangju Bank, stated, "We have prepared practical training to help local residents and employees raise safety awareness together, coinciding with the Ulchi Exercise, a national security drill." He added, "I hope that the first aid skills learned through this training will be applied quickly and without panicking in actual critical moments, serving as a foundation for saving the precious lives of our neighbors."
