Okcheon-gun Dementia Relief Center Operates Dementia Awareness and Prevention Programs for Local Residents
The Okcheon-gun Dementia Relief Center has officially launched the "Understanding Dementia Together" program at local senior welfare centers and disability welfare centers to help improve residents' understanding of dementia and encourage preventive practices in their daily lives.
This program is being implemented in conjunction with the Okcheon-gun Happiness Education Department's "Chungbuk-style Lifelong Learning City for the Elderly" project and targets all local residents, including seniors diagnosed with dementia as well as those with mild cognitive impairment and those at high risk of dementia.
The curriculum is composed of basic dementia prevention education and awareness-raising lectures by professional instructors, as well as diverse hands-on cognitive activities such as cooking, pottery, and woodworking designed to stimulate participants' brains. During the program, surveys on changes in dementia awareness and satisfaction will be conducted among participants to inform future improvements to the project.
The program will run continuously until September 17, with a total of eight sessions held at each of the senior welfare center and disability welfare center. In an interview, the Deputy Director of the Okcheon County Dementia Relief Center stated, "I hope this program serves as an opportunity for local residents to correctly understand dementia without prejudice and to independently practice dementia prevention habits in their daily lives." He emphasized, "Since early detection and continuous management are the key to dementia, I ask that the elderly and residents in the area spare no interest or participation in regular early dementia screenings."
