Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority, Korea Startup Promotion Agency "Innowave Project" Consortium Finally Selected..Partnering with startups to conduct field demonstrations in three areas: port safety, environment, and tourism..
Reporter Kim Doo-hwan
The Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority announced on the 15th that it participated as a demand agency in the "Innowave Project," a 2026 "Super-Gap Startup Project" organized by the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Promotion, and that three consortia were finally selected.
According to the Authority, Innowave is an open innovation program that supports joint Proof of Concept (PoC) between deep tech startups and demand companies, such as large corporations and public institutions.
The startups finally selected as consortia will be provided with 100 million won in collaboration funds each.
Prior to this, the Authority participated in the final selection evaluation for consortia after undergoing a preparation process that began last May. This included identifying collaborative projects in the fields of safety, environment, and tourism applicable to the Yeosu Gwangyang Port site, discovering suitable startups, and conducting site visits.
The outstanding consortia finally selected will apply different innovative technologies to the port site in their respective fields. Accordingly, a 70-ton class rope release system will be installed at the quay mooring section of Nakpo Wharf to demonstrate a system that monitors rope loads in real time, predicts accidents using AI, and enables remote release.
In addition, carbon measuring devices will be attached to port equipment at the Gwangyang Port container terminal to measure carbon emissions based on the international standard (ISO 14083).
Furthermore, tourism content designed to attract tourists from other regions will be demonstrated by operating regionally specialized tourism experiences utilizing leased spaces at the Yeosu World Expo site.
The Corporation plans to fully implement field demonstrations with three startups by this coming December and review results through a regular monthly consultative body. The results of the demonstrations will be disclosed at the Innowave League presentation evaluation to be held in December.
President Choi Kwan-ho stated, "The selection of the Innowave Consortium holds great significance in that Yeosu-Gwangyang Port is leading innovation simultaneously in the three fields of safety, environment, and tourism." He added, "Through on-site collaboration with startups, we will accelerate the transition to a smart port and contribute to the creation of private sector jobs."
