Sancheong County Recreates Traditional Rice Planting in Terraced Fields… Hosting Event for Residents and Students
Sancheong County is holding a reenactment of traditional rice planting to raise awareness of agricultural culture that is disappearing due to mechanization.
Sancheong County announced that it will hold the "Demonstration and Experience Event for Disappearing Traditional Culture" on the 20th at the terraced fields of Cheokji Village in Sindeung-myeon, in collaboration with the Sancheong Branch of the Federation of Korean Arts Associations.
This event is part of the "2026 Culture Day in Every Corner" project, a public contest organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and was prepared to preserve local agricultural heritage and community culture through experiential programs.
During the event, the Goseong Nongyo Preservation Society, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, will participate to reenact traditional rice planting, while the Sindeung-myeon Pungmul Troupe will present a Nongak performance.
In addition, an experience program will be conducted where residents and students can directly enter the fields to plant rice seedlings. The county expects that this will foster intergenerational exchange and allow participants to experience the meaning of agricultural labor and cooperative culture.
On-site documentation will also be carried out. Members of the Sancheong Branch of the Korea Photographers Association plan to photograph rice planting scenes and residents to use as local cultural resources in the future.
Sancheong County plans to continue expanding participatory culture and arts programs to broaden opportunities for local residents to enjoy culture and experience traditional culture.
