이번 식재는 도심 내 유휴지와 주요 도로변을 꽃길로 가꿔 군민들에게 쾌적한 휴식 공간을 제공하고, 민·관이 함께 가꾸는 공동체 문화를 확산하기 위해 마련됐다.
이날 행사에는 보은군새마을회, 바르게살기운동보은군협의회, 자유총연맹보은군지회, 보은부녀적십자봉사회, 한국임업후계자보은군협의회 등 5개 사회단체 180여 명과 군청 직원 100여 명이 참여해 도심 곳곳에 꽃을 심으며 구슬땀을 흘렸다.
군은 도시 미관 개선과 군민 삶의 질 향상을 위해 생활권 녹지 조성을 꾸준히 추진해 왔으며, 이번 테마화단 식재는 지역 사회단체의 자발적인 참여를 바탕으로 함께 만들어졌다.
테마화단은 △신한헤센~후평사거리 △이평교소공원 △이평교사거리~보은교 △군청사거리 일원 등 도심 주요 지점 4곳에 조성됐으며, 버들마편초 4만 4,800주가 식재됐다.
특히 버들마편초는 개화기간이 길고 생육이 강해 여름부터 늦가을까지 도심 곳곳에 지속적인 경관을 제공할 것으로 기대된다.
