Min Hyung-bae Tours Gwangju and Jeonnam to Converse with ‘Special Citizens’… “Citizens Propose, Administration Implements”
Jeonnam-Gwangju Transition Planning Committee to Hold On-Site Communications in 5 Sectors from the 19th to the 25th – Focusing on Startups, Culture, Women, Agriculture/Fisheries, and Labor… Seeking Directions for a Citizen-Sovereign Integrated Special City
(Break News Gwangju/Jeonnam) Reporter Lee Hak-su = The Jeonnam-Gwangju Transition Planning Committee announced that it will hold ‘Dialogues with Special Citizens’ under the theme “Citizen Min Hyung-bae Listens to Special Citizens!” from the upcoming 19th to the 25th in Gwangju, Naju, Mokpo, Yeosu, and other locations.
This event is designed to go beyond the existing format of one-way briefings or simple opinion-gatherings, serving as a venue where citizens take the lead in deciding the direction and policies of the integrated special city. Mayor-elect Min Hyung-bae will meet directly with special citizens, focusing on five sectors with high citizen interest and policy demand: startups, culture/tourism/sports, women, agriculture/forestry/livestock/marine/fisheries, and labor. It is expected to become a venue for on-site communication based on the so-called "citizen sovereignty model," where citizens make proposals and the administration implements them.
The first event is a dialogue on the startup sector, to be held at the Gwangju Creative Economy Innovation Center on the 19th at 10:00 AM. Under the theme "Designing a Global Top 100 Startup City Together," the mayor-elect, entrepreneurs, experts, and citizens will gather to discuss the development direction of the startup ecosystem in the unified Special City.
Following this, dialogues with citizens of the Special City are scheduled to take place sequentially: ▲ June 22 at Dongshin University in Naju (Culture, Tourism, and Sports sectors) ▲ June 23 in Mokpo (Women's sector) ▲ June 24 in Yeosu (Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, and Marine Fisheries sectors) ▲ June 25 in Gwangju (Labor sector).
Any citizen wishing to participate in the event can register via the QR code included on the poster. However, the number of attendees may be limited depending on conditions such as the size of the venue.
Yoon Nan-sil, Chairperson of the Citizens' Sovereignty Committee, emphasized, “The integrated special city is not merely about consolidating administrative districts into one, but about creating a new community that transforms the lives of citizens.” She added, “Since the citizens are the owners of the special city, the initiative and decision-making power for policies also lie with them; the realization of a citizen-sovereign government lies in citizens making proposals and the administration following them.”
Meanwhile, the Jeonnam-Gwangju-Daejeon Transition Planning Committee plans to synthesize the various opinions proposed during this dialogue with special city citizens and actively utilize them as foundational data for the future administration and policy formulation of the integrated special city.
