Danyang County Trains Professional Barefoot Walking Instructors in a 16-Hour Course

Danyang County is stepping up efforts to spread a healthy walking culture within the region by training professional barefoot walking instructors.

The county announced that it conducted the "Professional Barefoot Walking Instructor Training Course" for two days, from the 25th to the 26th, at the main auditorium on the 3rd floor of the Danyang County Public Health Center and along the Daeseongsan Barefoot Forest Trail.

This training was organized to systematically disseminate proper walking methods and safety guidelines in response to growing resident interest in barefoot walking, and to cultivate professional personnel to lead community walking programs.

The course was conducted by inviting professional instructors and combined theory and practice, consisting of a total of 16 hours.

On the first day, theoretical education focused on the principles and effects of barefoot walking, as well as domestic and international case studies. On the second day, the curriculum continued with grounding theory, proper walking posture, and barefoot walking practice. In particular, this course was scheduled for the weekend to make it easier for local residents and office workers to participate, and it garnered significant interest with a diverse age range of participants—from their 20s to their 70s—accompanied by pre-registration.

Barefoot walking is gaining attention as an exercise that helps improve blood circulation, stabilize the mind and body, and foster healthy lifestyle habits through the activity of walking barefoot in nature.

In Danyang, interest and participation in barefoot walking are spreading, evidenced by the active operation of the "Barefoot Walking Companions" band, a voluntary group centered on local residents.

Accordingly, the county has established and is operating a barefoot forest trail in the area of Mt. Daeseong in Danyang-eup, and is supporting residents in autonomously practicing health management in their daily lives by expanding barefoot walking trails across eight towns and townships.

The Danyang County Public Health Center plans to continue providing education and promotion on proper walking posture and precautions for barefoot walking, and to expand walking programs for residents by connecting the professional instructors trained in this course with the local community. A county official stated, “This training is significant in that it has laid the foundation to expand barefoot walking beyond a simple individual health activity into a community health culture,” adding, “We will continue to promote various health initiatives that enable residents to practice health in their daily lives.”
