Danyang County Establishes Sustainable Ecological and Geological Learning Model... Leading Region-Specialized Lifelong Learning with 'Geological Learning Center'
Danyang County is accelerating lifelong learning projects that link the UNESCO World Geopark with local forest and ecological resources. The Danyang County Lifelong Learning Center announced the successful completion of the "2026 Danyang County Forest-Teering Instructor Training and Testbed Operation" project, which was promoted as part of the "Danyang Geological Learning Center" development initiative.
This project was designed to discover region-specific lifelong learning content that connects Danyang's rich natural environment with education, tourism, and experiential activities. The non-profit organization Daum Forest participated as the implementing agency and conducted the project from February to July.
Forest-Teering is an experiential forest education program that involves exploring the terrain and ecology of the forest using maps and compasses. It is evaluated as a convergent learning content that leverages Danyang's regional characteristics, as it allows participants to simultaneously experience physical activity, problem-solving, environmental education, and family cooperation activities. Through this project, the county operated a 30-hour training course for Foresteering Instructors. Participants received field-oriented education that combined theory and practice, covering topics such as map reading, compass usage, electronic map creation, course design, field surveys, and mock competitions. The program achieved the remarkable feat of having every graduate pass the certification exam.
In particular, the initiative went beyond simply acquiring a certification; it strengthened practical skills by providing graduates with opportunities for hands-on field practice, allowing them to participate in actual program operations. A total of 151 people participated in the family experience programs, held three times across early childhood/elementary family and evening formats. Participants experienced map reading, compass usage, and nature exploration missions, while graduates took on the role of facilitators to solidify their field experience.
One graduate who completed the course stated that the field-oriented practical training was a significant help in boosting their practical capabilities and expressed a strong determination to actively engage in future activities involving the direct planning and operation of programs. An official from Danyang County stated that the Danyang Geological Learning Center is a specialized content that connects the natural environment and geological resources with education, tourism, and lifelong learning, adding that they will continue to train professional personnel and diversify experiential programs to develop it into a sustainable ecological and geological lifelong learning model unique to Danyang.
