Gimhae City Aims for Re-certification as an Age-Friendly City… Full-scale Implementation with 294.1 Billion Won Investment

Expansion of 84 Projects Across the Board… Aiming for WHO Re-certification in September, Simultaneously Strengthening Welfare, Care, and Infrastructure

Gimhae City is accelerating the implementation of large-scale projects with the goal of re-certification as an Age-Friendly City.

The city announced that it is investing a total of 294.1 billion won this year to create a "Vibrant Age-Friendly City Gimhae" and is actively pursuing 84 projects involving 22 departments.

Since receiving Age-Friendly City certification from the World Health Organization (WHO) in September 2023, Gimhae City has continuously expanded policies tailored to local characteristics based on the eight-area guidelines presented by the WHO.

Key projects for this year include expanding senior employment opportunities, relocating dedicated agencies, launching full-scale integrated care support programs (including medical and nursing care), and implementing policies to address welfare blind spots such as the "AI Safe Fence" and "Just Dream Project." Along with this, the city is striving to improve the quality of life for seniors by simultaneously expanding infrastructure, such as constructing a new senior welfare center and a comprehensive social welfare center in the Jinyeong area.

The city submitted an application for re-certification to the WHO last March and is concentrating its administrative capabilities on obtaining final re-certification this coming September.

If re-certification is confirmed, Gimhae City will once again receive official recognition for its age-friendly policies and urban environment that meet international standards.

A Gimhae City official stated, "An age-friendly city signifies a city where not only seniors but all citizens can live safely and conveniently," adding, "We will proceed with projects without setbacks to create an inclusive city that citizens can truly experience."
