Changwon National University Issues Joint Declaration to Strengthen Regional Innovation Cooperation Among Politics, Business, Academics, and Research in Gyeongnam
‘Gyeongnam-type UGRIC Steering Committee’ Held… Mid-term Review of Implementation Status for 8 Key Tasks
As the ‘Glocal University 30’ project, currently being pursued by Changwon National University, reaches a critical turning point in its third year, leaders from the political, business, academic, research, and media sectors—who shoulder the fate of the Gyeongnam region—gathered to unite in their commitment to strengthening implementation capabilities.
Changwon National University announced that it held the ‘Gyeongnam-type UGRIC Steering Committee’ at the university headquarters on the 26th. This committee will serve as the core control tower for the Glocal University project.
UDRIC is a cooperative framework encompassing local governments (University), universities (Government), research institutes (Research Institute), industry (Industry), and local communities (Community). The meeting was held as a venue for a ‘Joint Declaration’ to formalize concrete commitments that will drive the co-growth of local governments and universities.
**Changwon National University** The meeting, presided over by President Park Min-won, was attended in person by approximately 30 key leaders representing the region's economy, industry, education, and media sectors. These included Kim Seong-gyu, Director General of the Education and Youth Bureau of Gyeongsangnam-do; Choi Kyung-hee, President of Changshin University; Kim Seok-ju, Vice President for Research at the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI); Choi Jae-ho, Chairman of the Gyeongnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council; Kim Jeong-hwan, President of Gyeongnam Technopark; Kim Eun-cheol, Head of the Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation; and Choi Chang-young, Director General of KBS Changwon Broadcasting Station.
President Park personally briefed the attendees on the major progress made to date, followed by in-depth feedback and encouragement from the committee members regarding the future direction of the project. One steering committee member present at the meeting emphasized, "We must discuss the complex issue of regional decline together based on an innovation ecosystem where various regional sectors are hyper-connected with the university at its center. We expect the UGRIC cooperation framework to play a pivotal role at the heart of this effort."
The joint declaration, signed by all attending committee members, contains a pledge by Changwon National University to contribute to the comprehensive regional development of Gyeongnam—including education, industry, economy, culture, and the environment—as a core institution of the Glocal Project. At the same time, the participating institutions reached a concrete agreement to implement the joint tasks specified in the project plan without any setbacks. Moving forward, the institutions participating in the signing will work in perfect coordination, like gears meshing together, covering everything from talent cultivation and technology development to employment and entrepreneurship linkages.
Park Min-won, President of Changwon National University, emphasized that "the Glocal University Project is the core driving force for the regional development of Gyeongnam through educational innovation." He further stressed, "We will do our utmost to ensure that university innovation, centered on the Gyeongnam-style UGRIC system, leads to tangible changes and the creation of results for the local community." Meanwhile, Changwon National University’s Glocal Business Group’s UGRIC (University-Government-Research-Industry-Community) is a virtuous cycle system for regional co-prosperity in which universities, local governments, research institutions, industry, and the local community work together with the same goals and direction to respond to the Ministry of Education’s Glocal University 30 project and cooperate closely with the local community.
