민형배 전남광주통합특별시장은 6일 광주청사 브리핑실에서 기자회견을 열고 “이재명 대통령과 정부의 신속하고 책임 있는 결단에 깊이 감사드린다”며 “320만 특별시민과 함께 크게 환영한다”고 공식 입장을 밝혔다.
앞서 이날 오전 이재명 대통령 주재로 열린 ‘메가 프로젝트 민관합동 점검회의’에서는 호남권 반도체 클러스터 조성 부지로 광주 군공항 부지를 최종 확정·발표했다.
실제 투자를 진행할 글로벌 기업들이 후보지들을 직접 검토한 결과, 속도와 인프라, 물류 측면에서 가장 완벽한 ‘삼박자’를 갖춘 최적지로 평가해 이번 낙점이 이뤄진 것으로 알려졌다.
약 250만 평 규모의 광주 군공항 부지는 공항 특성상 이미 평탄화 작업이 완료되어 있어 부지 공사 기간을 최소화할 수 있다는 것이 최대 강점이다. 또한 광주 도심 및 KTX 송정역과 인접해 우수 인력 확보와 정주 여건이 뛰어나며, 도로·공항·항만 등과 연계된 물류 접근성도 한껏 높은 평가를 받았다.
