Goyang City Strengthens Visiting Health Management for Seniors

Integrated Muscle Strength and Nutrition Program Receives Positive Response

Goyang Special City has set out to take care of the health of seniors by expanding community-based health management services in response to the growing elderly population.

The Gajwa Branch of the Ilsanseo-gu Public Health Center announced on the 27th that it is operating a "Visiting Health Management Office" that directly visits senior centers and villages in the Gajwa-dong, Gusan-dong, and Beopgot-dong areas.

This initiative goes beyond simple health education by visiting the field, focusing on simultaneously supporting the maintenance of physical function and the prevention of chronic diseases. In particular, the program centers on customized initiatives designed to reduce the risk of falls and promote healthy aging.

The program runs for approximately 18 weeks, during which participants undergo various health status checks, including frailty assessments via automated physical function tests, blood and body composition tests, and dementia cognitive tests. In addition, education on moderation in alcohol consumption and nutrition, along with muscle-strengthening exercises, are conducted concurrently to encourage the practice of health management in daily life. This year, practical training aimed at improving dietary habits has been newly introduced and is drawing attention. In particular, to emphasize the importance of protein intake, cooking classes utilizing readily available ingredients are being conducted, and participants' understanding has been enhanced by directly engaging in the cooking process.

During the training, participants prepare various dishes such as salads, porridge, steamed eggs, and bibimbap using ingredients like chicken breast and tuna, helping them create meal plans that can be easily applied in daily life. One senior participant commented that it was beneficial to learn how to use new ingredients and that they felt they could easily practice these methods at home.

An official from the public health center expressed hope that this initiative would help not only promote physical activity but also foster balanced eating habits, stating that they would continue to expand customized health management services for the elderly.
