Goyang City Secures ‘Gyeonggi Technical School Northern Campus’… Leaping as a Hub for Technical Education in Northern Gyeonggi
Construction of approximately 250 pyeong in Seongsa-dong, Deogyang-gu… Aiming for Official Opening in June or July
Goyang Special City has secured a key hub for fostering talent in future high-tech industries by successfully attracting the ‘Gyeonggi Technical School Northern Campus,’ a long-cherished project for the northern Gyeonggi region.
On the 29th, Goyang City announced that it was selected as the final site for the Northern Campus of the ‘Gyeonggi Technical School,’ a public vocational training institution operated by the Gyeonggi Job Foundation.
Until now, the Gyeonggi Technical School operated only in Hwaseong City, causing inconvenience for residents in the northern Gyeonggi region regarding educational accessibility, and issues regarding disparities in vocational education opportunities have been consistently raised.
The newly established Northern Campus will be located on the 9th floor of the Creative Innovation Campus Seongsa in Seongsa-dong, Deogyang-gu, Goyang City. Spanning approximately 826 square meters (250 pyeong), the facility will be established. Goyang City plans to commence construction this coming May and complete the official opening in June or July.
Full-scale training will begin in the second half of this year.
The curriculum consists of practical, hands-on programs designed to reflect the demands of local industries.
The core focus is on technical training that can be immediately applied in industrial settings, such as electrical equipment construction management, system HVAC installation, and AI-based software automation.
The city plans to gradually expand the curriculum in the future, reflecting operational performance and the local economic situation.
Securing this campus promises various ripple effects that go beyond a simple expansion of educational facilities.
By utilizing idle space within the existing Creative Innovation Campus, the city has achieved efficient administration by saving on separate new construction costs. Furthermore, the influx of approximately 80 trainees in the second half of this year is expected to contribute to the revitalization of nearby commercial areas.
In addition, it is projected to have a positive impact on strengthening the local employment base by fostering customized talent capable of immediate deployment to industrial sites. Kim Kyung-han, Head of the Job Policy Division at Goyang City, stated, “The Northern Campus of the Gyeonggi Technical School will resolve the chronic shortage of vocational education infrastructure in northern Gyeonggi Province and become a key hub for nurturing talent to lead future high-tech industries.”
Previously, Goyang City and the Gyeonggi Job Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the stable operation of the Northern Campus and established a cooperative framework to strengthen employment capabilities, including expanding technical education infrastructure and building a job placement system.
With this successful bid, Goyang Special City has further strengthened its foundation to become a self-sufficient city where technical talent and industry grow together, moving beyond its status as a residential-focused city.
